Still working on my whistling. I never, in a million years, expected to hear Adam whistling on the 1st single of TOH. What will he think of next? All of this talk about western and cowboy music got me to thinking... Yodeling!!!

I could actually see the music video of Ghost Town as a montage. A layered time travel as Adam drives his convertible into another era and back. Echoing the sentiments of the lyrics. But I do bet we see an old west deserted ghost town clip to show the bleak place the heart can reside in when there is no one left to inhabit it, interspersed with the equally isolating modern day landscape. It could be a great piece of art, this. It will be shot in black and white, no color. Whew..where'd that come from?

Without bringing the whole post over, I want to thank you, AdamRocks, for the compilation of the differences between Country and Western music - very interesting and helpful. Both are legitimate forms of music in my mind, and in their most basic forms arise as poignant human expressions of where people live and have their being. My mother had a book which has been passed on to me called The American Song Bag compiled by Carl Sandburg which explores the roots of these American musical genres.
Some songs are very simple one-liners: "Great God, I'm feelin' bad; I ain't got the man I thought I had." What more do you need to add to that.
Other songs, such as "Sweet Betsy from Pike" go on and on with verse after verse added on, as this was a song of the pioneers headed West.
My mother was very much interested in the Appalachian folk and bluegrass traditions along with the fusion with African songs and blues. As a kid I also liked the Western songs which spoke to me of wide open spaces, long distances, and a certain sense of loneliness. While I particularly liked the Sons of the Pioneers, there was one Western artist not mentioned in the list that I think should have been included - and that was Tex Ritter (do you remember him, Momtomany?). He was the father of actor John Ritter, and he was just about my favorite Western singer.
My ex-husband loved Sons of the Pioneers. Also, Tex Ritter is from Beaumont, Texas, which is in the same area I live!

I was just thinking -----can you just imagine Adam laughing his arse off if Ghost Town has NOTHING to do with western or country music themes and his fandom is continuing to go s=crazy with speculations about tumbleweeds, whistlings, riding cowboys etc......I think we are here for HIS entertainment!!!!!
Oh, by the way, I DO love Roy Orbison.

You've had me down a different rabbit hole tonight. From 'Rawhide' to 'Paladin' (Have Gun Will Travel), to 'High Noon' . . . I'm looking for an instrumental version of the theme - it's out there, somewhere, and it's beautiful. Momtomany...do you mean an instrumental version of High Noon? I found this one: That instrumental reminds me of Bonanza.

So I heard Madonna's Ghosttown on my local radio today. I only caught the beginning but I thought it stood out from the usual fare because her voice is lower and seems very front and centre. I noticed that right away. Sounds nice--a womanly voice. I get tired of singers that sound like little girls.
