Zinnia, what if you were a Kris Allen fan, though? I feel like Adam is so special that OF COURSE he's going to do well. But what if you went this nuts over someone and they weren't getting any recognition from the outside world. I can see where I would start resenting the "competition". Boo Hoo, RCA likes the other guy better. If my guy got that gig, he would be in the papers, too, etc. It's easier to back a winner. That's why teams like the Yankees for example have fans all over the country. We just were smart enough to fall for GNAFL. I'm not defending fan wars, but I've backed losing teams before. Winners are more fun. ;D I like Kris Allen :D, but he doesn't have the "IT" that Adam does. He is not fascinating, he is "just" Kris Allen. If I had liked Kris more than Adam, it would go the same way. I'm a bad fan, not competitive. It's the guy himself that's got to get the gigs and stuff. If he doesn't, for sure RCA would invest more to the other guy that shows he has the drive in himself. I still would like my guy, though! :D About recognition - I'd feel sorry for those who don't get it how fabulous this guy is but at the same time would admit that people have so different tastes that it cannot be helped. Winning team - I'd never go for such just because it is the winning one, I go for those I like . I've never been good at doing something just because it is the way all others/most do, I need a better, personal reason. Bad fan, not invested enough - am I revealing too much now . LOL. Good fan. Obviously, not competitive and able to stay out of the fray. I'm getting better. Maybe I'd never be a stan of someone lesser than . I never was before. But if lightning struck me when I saw Taylor Hicks or Kris Allen (I "like" them both, btw) I'd be feeling pretty protective of them and maybe even a fierce mama bear when they were slighted. I know me. Hope I wouldn't turn into a nasty troll though, I don't think I would......and again, sorry Anoop. (Actually, all I said was "with friends like these.... and then for him to please put his comments into context for us. It was enough for him to block me though. :-/ That felt weird and it was my first and last troll episode.) SusieFierce I'm cracking up at the thought that I could have a ninja assignment. I'm sooo proud. Of course, what are the odds.?

Mika - thanks for your post, I totally agree that engaging is not a good idea for your OWN sake, regardless of the other parties. I think the "would you say this to this person in this way, face to face in real-life" test is a good one.
Interesting article, plus the linked article about internet addiction (too close to home).
I was reading an article on "trolling" funnily enough as the preface to a book on contemporary art-work about the human figure. It also emphasized that online anonymity and lack of accountability (the absence of social norms and taboos) tended to bring out our baser/animal natures, encourage virtual lynch mobs, etc. And made comparisons to the psychological tests done where people would virtually hurt or steal from others if assured that there would be no accountability.
Looking in the mirror I did engage with the Fox News commenter on twitter regarding pinktoenailgate. But I can honestly say I would have asked the same questions in real life, and I was really interested in not changing anyone's mind, but observing how someone paid a six figure salary to shape public narrative would fence and evade.
Yeah, very good food for thought and self-examination.

He's taking requests right now--playing Adele's Rolling in the Deep now (good, good song--really liked Cook's cover of it, too--thx to whoever posted that days ago!) I just love Liam's show. I'm looking forward to hearing what he chooses from Scarlett and Alisan. And I just love the surprise of what's-coming-next during the Adam Hour! Pretty sure S/A part starts at 6:30E, 5:30C, 3:30P...Imma listen again today while doing some chores! Mood-enhancing music always helps! Btw, LOL at song choice for Goodbye-Goatee song--My Way was my dad's all-time favorite song, made me smile! (...although I love the facial hair--am always happy when he changes up his look--Adamslut all the way here and I think I could love just about any look on this guy!)

I'm confused by this. What happened?
Another very insightful post by mika on the last page. The one on yesterday's thread (was it yesterday?) and now this. Thanks for making me take a deeper look at this fan wars business and how I'm contributing to it albeit in a small, non-hating way. I plan to hit "post" more slowly in the future.
Also - great video you linked. Scary.
