No Angel: Some of the events this week had me thinking (even more than usual) but I didn't have time to put them into words during my quick morning browsing, and some of the conversations had moved on by the time my workday ended. I actually wondered if you was going to touch upon some of the things I was thinking in your Sunday essay, and you did, and as always, you expressed them brilliantly. (I'm going to have to watch my hero worship of your thoughts and writings too.) This is what stood out the most for me: "I think very, very highly of Adam, obviously. I think he is brilliantly talented and an all-around good human being. Oh wait. Did I say human being? Actually, most of the time I think so damn highly of Adam that he may as well be a unicorn or an alien or a raven-haired elven prince. And maybe that’s the problem. No one can possibly live up to the larger-than-life image I build up in my head." and this "Do I hold Adam to a different standard than the one to which I hold my friends? Family? Other celebrities? Myself? Am I so caught up in his every move that I immediately begin calculating its effect on his career and the growth rate of his Twitter followers?"Because I admire Adam so much and treasure his voice, I tend to project all kinds of things onto him and have to remind myself that he is human and under no circumstances has to live up to any of my wondrous unicorn projections or those of others. He knows who he is and is not afraid to live in the moment without calculating what others may think. That's what makes him a stellar performer and also a person whose opinion your can trust and value even if it's not the same as yours. He's fearless and genuine and owns whatever he does. That is about as perfect as a human can be. And this: "Being a passionate fan is awesome, but I also want to be a compassionate one. And “keeping it real” is one of the bravest things a person can do. Thank you for the reminder, Adam. #Realness. Bring it on." Perfectly expressed! (Happy tears) Q3, I also loved the art of fanwar. It's a great study in human nature if you can step back and observe it all. I can do this as long as it doesn't involve Adam. I did try to stand up for Carly Smithson a time or two during her season and defended Adam frequently during season 8, but by the time the tour rolled around, I couldn't take it anymore and began my search for Adam only sites. I did peek in on how many of you here were defending Adam with eloquent intelligence during the tour and then was absolutely thrilled when I finally stumbled upon the community where you all landed after some of you tragically disappeared. Thank you both, and thank you all! I cherish this community.

It's Danny Gokey-gate, and it just won't go away. Q3. Loved your post. I love Atop and the mix and balance of all the posts you all put up... Posts that are serious and funny, seriously funny, informative and frivolous, dramatic and subtle, deep and shallow. The tone switches from moment to moment, just like it does in real life, helping me remember that while it is good not to stay too deep or too shallow for too long, and that coasting in the middle can be restful, the moments wading into the deep and into the shallow are what give life it's richness, and it's best when there is a balance of both. You are the best! I am coming home from Boston and family, after a wonderful vacation and reunion, to an empty house, but all of you still live here, and that is such a good thing. Q3 I loved your post lynne you always express how I feel thank you. ETA. If someone wants to share what is the Danny Gokey Family Dinner incident that Q3 mentions in her post? ??? I wasnt following any forums during that period and I dont know anything about it. Just curious. I'll try to summarize this as quickly as possible; I wasn't there from the beginning, but got the story once it blew up on ONTD_ai. This is what I gathered/remembered, so if I'm wrong on anything, please feel free to correct me. Early in the season (Top 9 or 10, I think ... maybe a little later) the Idols went out to dinner. Danny had relatives out from Wisconsin(?). His cousin (about 18 or 19) asked Danny to ask Adam to sign a photo for her. She gave him the Halloween photo for Adam in blue oops, green makeup to sign (Adam, why you so many colors sometimes? ). From accounts, Adam was a little taken aback, but Danny said, "Just sign it." Later, Adam took pictures with her and Danny's other relatives and was very sweet and accommodating (according to the cousin's initial report). Then later, she posted the pics on her Facebook page and made a bunch of disparaging comments about Adam, like, "Ewww, I can't believe I was that close ..." and something about how her father was trying to stay as far away as possible. Well, this was NOT a private FB page and, of course, the ninjas got wind of it and before long, it was an Internet meltdown. ONTD_ai trended "Danny is a Douche" for quite some time. She later locked the FB account and there was much questioning if there was animosity between Danny and Adam, which Adam eventually replied to in a tweet. ETA: LOOL!! I was thinking as I was writing this, "Watch, as soon as I post, someone will have already had links to the story." Eh, well ...

I think the whole Danny's family dinner thing is one of several things that led to Neils "very strong dislike" for Danny. Neil was candid in his tweets.
