Reading of Sam Smith's vocal issues and musing over my coffee, I find it interesting and a little perturbed at the public's general dissing of artistic specialists....when specializing is the key to success in most other vocational realms. The reason singers from the musical theatre and opera can perform 6 and 7 performances a week is because they have specialized in their voices, working for years to hone and perfect their art. Yes, in musical theatre, most performers also have strong dance skills...but I also suspect if you did an analysis, those that have really strong dance skills are not quite as strong singers, and vice versus. I am ignoring the acting portion as I am focussing on the needs of the body to respond to the physical stresses of repetitive performing. You only have to look at young singers like Sam or Adele to see what happens without the focus and training. And if you expect your singers to also dance up a storm, they have no option but to lip synch. Even Adam can't sing and dance for a whole concert....the odd number, like Fever on the GNT, but most of the girls now are expected to dance like semi-pro's and ridiculed when caught synching...well duh...ditto Also, if they have to put that much time and work into the dancing, that time must come away from the singing. Zero sum game. So...why are singers like Adam criticized for not having more grit or push, or singers like Celine ridiculed for the efforts she puts into protecting her voice? If they don't do these things, they will end up like so many singers, cancelling shows or blowing out their voices forever. Trained vocalists can sing for decades...have you listened to Colm Wilkinson...at 70+ he can still do a very respectable "Bring him Home"...you won't see Robert Plante or Steven Tyler doing that.. Both Sam and Adele have had extensive vocal training. Sam through a jazz vocal coach, choir and musical theatre and Adele at the BRIT school. It just goes to show that Adam was very lucky working with an exceptional coach in his young years. voicecouncil.com/how-did-sam-smith-make-it/answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130312170913AAYpEPb

Good to live in the SF Bay Area haha. Heard Ghost Town a few times already. Put my mediabase requests in just now, but won't swamp them. I always give positive feedback via twitter if I hear the song played on the radio, or if GT gets announced ahead of time Jon Manuel on Star 101.3 played it twice last Friday evening and gave a shoutout to Glamberts That is perfect. The DJs like to get feedback from local listeners! **** On Mediabase, just like in 2012. Don't spam. Try to act like a normal radio listener -- pick some songs you like besides Ghost Town. A couple times a week is about the max to do. **** On polls and song contests --- VOTE VOTE VOTE! SPAM THEM.
