Hmm... With all of those lines going in every direction I would have guessed it was predicting the weather. Who knew? If I squint and tip my head to the left, I can just about see that. Very exciting! [snicker] Nah - THIS is for predicting the weather!! ;D Ok - I've GOT to go, or my husband is gonna beat me home. Later! You've inspired me to do some research, and actually, I think THIS is the most up to date weather predicting tool I've seen. If your husband beats you home, you can blame it all on me.

This one shows that GlamNationLive seems to be a heck of a lot of a better seller than Adam Acoustic...despite its significantly higher price! It also shows that the acoustic album has probably peaked out at this point. At least in the U.S. Retail sales are Everything. Even my Fred Meyer's has/had GlamNationLive. Only the "in the know" crowd got AL! acoustic.

Was just reading TEOG thread on Pulse to get an idea what Gaga's current single is doing and ran across a comment that record companies usually expect about 1/3 of the initial album shipment to sell in the first week. If this is true and RCAEd had commented that they shipment about 750k initially for FYE then that would mean they were projecting about 250k sales. Now I don't remember if that was the worldwide shipment total or just the US. Even if it was just US then he wasn't that far under predictions and the AMA fiasco could reasonably be blamed so I think it makes sense to say that he pretty much met expectations. I know non-fans and even some fans thought that he sold WAY less than expected but I never got that impression from the industry buzz that we saw and the media certainly never labeled his debut as under performing. The media in fact was always fairly positive in their characterization of his numbers. I actually think had SuBo not happened that same year he would have been considered a blockbuster success because if you take her out of the equation everybody in the industry looks a hell of a lot better.
Anyway, I'm just kind of thinking out loud.

The 750K figure is US only.

Anyway, I'm just kind of thinking out loud. Hmm....interesting. I don't know if that "rule-of-thumb" applies to Idol contestants though. Compared to other artists, Idol winners/finalists generally seem to oversell in the first week because of preorders, and then sell underwhemingly after that. IMO, Adam's sales pattern was probably different from most Idol sales because even though his first week was good, it might have been higher without the AMA controversy. HOWEVER, For Your Entertainment kept selling as people outside of Idol bought it. So, Adam's FYE sales pattern acted like a "normal" album, even though it was probably expected to sell like an "Idol" album (all front end, little back end). So the "1/3 first week sales" guideline wound up fitting. But IMO it was sorta accidental. ;D
