Just got off the phone with bamafan and told her I'd give y'all an update. We had a high speed conversation and I'll cover what I can remember of the 19 minutes of info. They are doing fine and just got a generator which will allow her to charge her phone and use a microwave. She figures it will still be some time before they have electricity.
I asked her if they were all home when the tornado hit, and she said they were, including their son. DH was groggy from a medical procedure he'd had done that morning, and they were watching the weather on TV. She said they had a camera 5 blocks from her home trained on the storm, and they saw it coming and it appeared to be heading right for them, so they went to the basement. She said it was much like everyone describes, with the pressure building and the noise.
A neighbors utility trailer landed on top of her Jeep and broke out the sunroof and bent the car badly. She has damage to all the windows, some worse than others, and she has them covered in plastic for now. It sounds like the second story has more damage than the main level, and she said they're staying at the house. She said her DH business is completely gone and they've not even found contents.
She said the Nat'l Guardsmen are right outside her house every night. I told bama that everyone keeps asking what they can do to help, and this was her response in her strong southern accent. "You tell them all that we're doin' just fine, and they don't need to worry about us one bit." Her cousin from down the road brought them $200 worth of groceries and she said they have plenty to get them by.
For those of you that haven't had the pleasure of meeting bama, she is a firecracker, and when she says they're fine, I believe they are. I told her that we all have been keeping them in our thoughts and that we love her. She said she loves us all back and will be glad to get back on line.
Just before we ended our call, she asked for an update on Idol (who went home last week), and I told her about the pic that Adam tweeted today and that she'll love it. They also knew nothing about what happened yesterday in Pakistan, so I filled her in.
It was great to hear her voice, and I'm sure she'll be calling again. Mayumi, if she can get her phone charged again, I think she'll call you tonight. Hope this info helps relieve some of your worry. Sounds like the worst thing for her is not being able to get on line. I think it made her smile to think that this whole on-line community is sending her light and love.
