Lovely post Lynne! Looking at the picture (again, and again, and again.....) I find it interesting that Adam, who 99% of the time is wearing the half gloves, is not wearing any here, but Sauli, who appears to have just recently started wearing them, is. Not that I think it means anything, but it jumped out at me!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY mwarne8 and Welcome to cattibrie!

I finally wrote up my meet-up with Katri & Sauli:
MEETING KATRI & SAULI AT THE PREMIERE OF “WATER FOR ELEPHANTS”
Preface: I live in Manhattan. There are a lot of public events here. This was a public event. With hundreds of people. With barricades. With plenty of security. If it bothers you that I was at this particular event, then this post is not for you. You might want to scroll ahead.
So, here goes.
Departure: One minute I was in front of my computer screen and five minutes later I was trotting uptown. Just like that. No plan. This kind of spontaneity was one of the things that surprised “Gorgeous” about NYC. One minute we were meeting someone at a certain time. Fifteen minutes later it changed. Then it changed back. One minute someone was joining us. Then they were not. Then they showed up last minute; with friends to boot. On the day of the Gaga concert I just gave Gorgeous my Droid and dictated Twitter DM’s. He could type faster. It would take me three paragraphs just to describe all the plans and changes to plans for that day alone. (haha, I really put him to work. I even had him enter phone numbers for me that were received via DM.) Anyway, this is the craziness that is NYC. Anything is possible. You don’t know it till you live it.
Arrival: When I arrived at the Ziegfield Theater where the premier was, there were two rows of barricades, half a city block long, and across the street from the theater. (The barricades on the theater side of the street were for the press.) Since our streets are old and narrow, there was only a single lane of traffic that could crawl through. The sidewalks were so crowded that a tourist (American) asked why didn’t they just close off the street. I laughed at him and answered they’d have to close half the city down in that case b/c there is something going on every second block.
Sightings: If you’ve read the Tutka translation, you know that people were lined up overnight and the crowd was tremendous. As I kept moving around to find a spot where I could see, I also was on the lookout for Katri & Sauli. I didn’t see them and thought that they gave up b/c of the crowd. When Robert Pattinson/ Reese Whiterspoon arrived there was quite a commotion. The flashes from the press were non-stop. I got a good taste of what it must be like for Adam and it wasn’t pleasant. Even from across the street, the flashes of the press were blinding. Really. Blinding. Yikes.
Then I got really excited. The heck with Pattinson/Whitherspoon, I spotted Katri & Sauli. They were inside the lobby of the venue (glass windows with doors open). They got to talk to Reese Whitherspoon. They moved around a bit and after I turned my head to change the batteries in my camera I thought I lost them.

Katri & Sauli come over to me: As soon as the celebs entered the theater, the crowd of fans dissipated rapidly. I waited and was rewarded. Katri & Sauli & the cameraman were across the street. I was still on the other side of the street and still behind the barricades. I waved to them. They were surprised. I waved again and they headed across the street to me. Repeat: They headed across the street to me!
Our Conversation: When they arrived I introduced myself (PastaBaby) and welcomed them to NYC. The first thing we talked about was the torrential rain of the night before, their arrival night. They told me how their umbrellas blew inside out and I explained that the storm was not our usual weather and was up and down the whole East Coast. I told them that I thought of them last night and was worried about their first impression of NYC. I had hoped the storm didn’t keep them inside and they still went out. They did. I told them I hope they didn’t ruin any shoes and they should have worn sneakers. Sauli lifted his foot to show me that he currently had sneakers on (so cute). I teased him that, oh, you get to wear sneakers and Katri gets to wear heels. (He had sneakers on with his suit.)
Before I continue with the details of our conversation, I have to say how friendly K&S were. They seemed happy to have someone recognize them. They were very chatty and we spoke for about ten minutes. I mostly directed my conversation to Katri as I didn’t want it to appear that I only wanted to speak to Adam’s boyfriend. Sauli was chatty too and joined in each of the topics.
One of the first things Katri said was that they were tired. I said “No Sleeping! There is too much to do in this city.” Sauli liked that idea and agreed.
We talked about the premiere. They were excited that they got to talk to Reese Witherspoon. I told them about the bright lights and turned to Sauli and said I now understood how blinding they are. I also told him that his prior comment about not needing a camera when he traveled made me chuckle.
We talked about the theater. They asked me about the Lion King. I told them that I wasn’t a good one to ask about seeing that. I said that if I couldn’t see a play in the beginning, I usually didn’t see it. I told them I am a snooty NYer and I want to see it with the stars. After that, the show is for the tourists. They laughed.
They then asked me about the Staten Is Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. I told them it was free vs. taking a tour boat. Unless they planned to walk up the Statue, you might as well just take the free Ferry. And here is the one and only time that Adam’s name was mentioned. I mentioned that I would be doing all these things myself in a couple of days as a young man that I met at Adam’s concert in Germany would be visiting me.
Katri then asked me about the different neighborhoods; Upper East Side vs. Upper West Side. They were interested in where Sex & the City was filmed and I told them there was a website where they could look up film locations. Katri pulled out some paper and I wrote it down. I also wrote down my favorite NY site, The Highline. The Highline is a park built on an old elevated rail line in the Meat Packing District. They seemed quite interested when I explained it to them. I wonder if they ever made it.
I think they would have continued to chat if I had wanted to but I thought it was time for a picture. When I took it Katri wanted to see it and I was a little nervous so she had to help me press the right button to find it. It came out great and even she liked it. I told her I would give her the link on her blog. Someone passed by and we also took a picture with the three of us. I’m keeping that one private.
I shook hands with them and we left together. The funny thing is, I was still on the other side of the barricade and we had to walk a bit before it ended. When we got to the corner, I told them this is where I turn and said goodbye. I walked home with a smile on my face.
Katri has a fan in me. No matter what happens with the Katri/Sauli team in the future, I will still wish her well. And, of course, I was just as thrilled to meet Sauli. What a fun guy.

(con’t) The haters: I was not surprised at all to come home to some “wonderful” comments. A Twitter friend suggested I not post next time. And I replied that just like in Adam’s “It Get’s Better” video, that would mean I have let them win. Perhaps if they were paying my rent, feeding me, and clothing me, I might reconsider. Here are some gems: @cu****300 (same one that trashed the Bklyn DJ) T hanks for the update c*nt. (she spelled it out) PastaBaby went to the city to stalk Sauli (haha, PastaBaby went to the city 30 yrs ago) PastaBaby CORNERED Sauli until he spoke to her.PastaBaby is lying. How could they talk for 10 minutes if they speak Finnish.Facepalm. PastaBaby must have pumped them with Adam questions. And the best comment was an ordinary “ stalker” comment but it came from a NJlover who just the day b4 said she was coming into the city in hopes of a Sauli sighting. The positive: My DM count went up about 125 on that evening. Any follower that asked me a question, I was willing to answer. I got a lot of comments from people saying that if they could have gotten out of work, they would have gone over too. I even got comments from friends of the haters how awful their behaviour was, but they were afraid to post public tweets. I got tweets from a couple of West Coast peeps who said they will no longer post public tweets when they meet Adam. (For me, like I said – pay my rent!) The nicest tweets came from my Finnish followers. They were happy that Katri & Sauli had someone that recognized them and extended a welcome. And in the end, that’s exactly what it was
