Aspen, I so agree. I'm thrilled he is the type of person to live in the moment and enjoy some of the benefits his success has supplied. Take vacations, spend time & money with people you love. He'll be OK and he'll carve out exactly the kind of career and life he wants.

Inspirational quote of the day: "Try to live your life in a way that you will not regret years of useless virtue and inertia and timidity. Pick up the battle. Take it up. It's yours. This is your life. This is your world." --Maya Angelou Actually, I really appreciate this. Just learned we may have lay offs at my job so my world is feeling really shaky right now. This quote made me feel like I have some control. Thank you.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT ADAM THAT INTIMIDATES, TURNS OFF, SCARES, WHATEVER, NON-ADAM FANS??? JMHO, people are not accustomed to acknowledging openly gay men as sexy. For instance, in the workplace, even though we know someone is gay, it is not openly discussed in mixed groups. Sure, among friends, we may discuss their boyfriends/girlfriends, but not in general. It seems to be a cultural norm that once a person is out, then discussions of any part of sexuality, including looks, about that person is strictly OT. I believe many people have pre-conceived ideas about what "gay" looks like. Especially those 40+. The first time I found out Anderson Cooper is gay, I thought to myself: "OMG, he doesn't LOOK gay! He's so masculine!" Of course, how foolish of me to think that, especially now that I "know" GNAFL!! On the other hand, my big sis is still struggles with this every time I show her a vid, or photo, or she watches him on TV. "Are you SURE he's gay? Maybe he's bi?!"

Inspirational quote of the day: "Try to live your life in a way that you will not regret years of useless virtue and inertia and timidity. Pick up the battle. Take it up. It's yours. This is your life. This is your world." --Maya Angelou This applies to how I feel about Adam going on a little vacation vs diving into writing and recording his #2. The album is important but so is having a life. Next it will be # 3 then # 4. Right now Adam has found someone he enjoys spending time with and he hasn't had that for a while. Good for him for being brave and smart enough not to put that on the back burner. It is possible to have it all and I think he would like to try. How many people do you know who put things off thinking there will be the perfect time? There is never a perfect time in most of our lives. Men and now women work too hard and don't spend time with their children so they can give them a better life. That is a noble goal but by the time the parents realize the repercussions the kids are grown and don't have time or the inclination to go with the folks to the beach or camping or even to a movie. The only time you have is now and how you use it is up to you. One of the things I love best about Adam is that he seems to understand that and works very hard but also now that he has a record, a tour, and a Grammy nomination under his belt he knows that he needs a personal life with some substance also. Alison, love the quote. Aspen, love the post. Fits with another quote I read this morning: ...there so many of them in our land! Students who can’t be happy until they’ve graduated, servicemen who can’t be happy until they are discharged, single folks who can’t be happy until they’ve found a mate, workers who can’t be happy until they’ve retired, adolescents who aren’t happy until they’re grown, ill people who aren’t happy until they’re well, failures who aren’t happy until they succeed, restless who can’t wait until they get out of town, and in most cases, vice versa, people waiting, waiting for the world to begin. ~Tom Robbins Adam personifies another old quote: "Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, today is a gift: that's why it's called the present."No time to look up who said it, but Imma on my way to see Black Swan (yay!), so I'll look it up later! Our guy has huge energy for life, for the present--love that.

Aspen, I love your post. I think I even remember a few interviews where Adam has mentioned finding balance and working on his personal life, because he hadn't had much of one for the past 2 years. Everytime I say "2 years" and as I am watching Idol Season 10, it just seems incredible that it's been 2 years and Adam has not stopped for more than a week or 2 during that whole time. Wow! Yes, he certainly desserves this vacation. I hope it is wonderful.

It just seems that I want to share things with ATOPers--kindred spirits we are. And, like I said yesterday, everything seems to have an Adam frame of reference anyway. This quote is from a wonderful epidode of Masterclass (on the OWN network) featuring Maya Angelou. I couldn't find any youtubes, but they rebroadcast all of the time. Try to catch it if you can. www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6hOrJRC7OoJust like Adam, Sauli has matured from a baby faced boy into a very handsome man. He looked like he was 15 in this video instead of 20 or 21. Very cute and he seems to be so nice.
