What's not clear to me is exactly why the "Judas" mv cost ten million. I like it, a lot, for all the usual reasons I like Gaga's mv's (the look, the look, the looks - visual/symbolic richness, attention to detail - color, costume, make-up, etc. - drama, cinematic quality, etc.), but why is it THE most expensive MV ever? Is it mainly the caliber and subsequent salaries of the people she works with (dancers, house of gaga people, directors, etc.)? Does she just "pay well"? Is it the big cast of extras? The amount of time it takes to shoot it all? To me, it's like the money involved in professional sports or Hollywood movies. Of course, the money could go here, could go there - but I don't begrudge athletes or actors their salaries. Their talent allows them to earn what they earn in a culture that clearly values what they do. Evidently, Gaga can "afford" or command ten million dollar mv's (is the money from her "pocket," her label? I don't know, I don't quite get that). Athletes play, actors act, Gaga makes music videos. None are saving the world, but evidently - until the world is saved - there are enough people who value what they do enough to allow them to continue. To me, the notion that Gaga should spend 1 million on her video and "give" 9 million to needy people (Cheeks' point) seems naive. Wherever exactly the ten million comes from for the mv (label? advertising?), it's not like she's going to be handed that to do with whatever she wants, I don't think. And if it is "her" money - than it is her money and she's using it to contract/support other artists. I think part of the reason for questioning why Gaga would spend 10 million on a video is that she has been selling herself to the world as an Artist (the capital is deliberate ) and we aren't seeing that the 10 million in any way made better art. If anything, her earlier videos that cost far less were much more interesting than the last couple very, very expensive videos. Gaga has also been painting herself as this caring, charitable, socially consious "Mother" to her fans. However, I have been feeling more and more like it is a contrived persona as much as the rest of her Gaga schtick. Sure, she has given a lot to charity and has supported the gay cause - but it has a feel of self-serving, look how wonderful I am rather than true compassion. I liked Gaga's early music - Just Dance was fun, Paparazi and Bad Romance are still enjoyable even after hearing them over and over on the radio, but somewhere along the line she let her ego take over and started believing her own hype. I haven't liked anything recent and it isn't ONLY because she told us that it was going to be revolutionary and change the face of music and then totally didn't deliver - the new songs just aren't all that good and I am sick of them after hearing them a couple of times. I have a feeling there really wouldn't be much comment on the cost of the video if it had been a diva that hasn't been telling us how wonderfully caring and charitable they are - certainly, we understand that commercials and movies cost millions to make and actors and athelets get paid huge amounts - I don't think I would have felt the same WTF if Britney or Beyonce or Rihanna had made a $10 million video. Gaga is slowly but surely losing my respect - both as an artist and as a person.

All these kitty pics make me want to have a cat so bad. Haven't had one since I was a kid . Just to remind you, I may send you my shredded sweater that is now one of my cat's, Gracie's, play things. She dragged it off a hanger in the closet and spent the day rearranging its shape and the continuity of the knit - that means she ripped it to shreds. I still love her, but she was grounded for 2 days and had to stay in her room, no sleeping with mom and dad. LOL :D. But hey, she had such a great day with the sweater! Completely owned it, right? Piece of Cat Art, unique - just for mom (and herself). Anyway, not going to get a kitty though I adore them. 2 dogs are enough . Well, also having had altogether 6 dogs as puppies everyone at their own time - I too have many stories . And the two cats and a fox terrier when I was a kid. That terrier ripped two leather armchairs & couch in one day, hiding his toys in them. My parents were not happy .

One thing I think Adam gets is that mixing things up keeps people interested. I think it helps keep him interested as well. After all, part of his training has been learning how to reinvent himself in different roles. it seems like a tricky business to give fans what they like, yet not allow yourself to be trapped by their expectations. If you achieve longevity, down the road, being trapped like that would get pretty tiresome.
Look how invested fans get even in how an artist looks... Change things up and you are ruining their fantasy. It is smart of Adam to make changing things up be a part of his brand. He started that immediately with his AI performances, both in his delivery of songs and with his looks as he performed them. He has truly made me a flexible fan, and I don't think that is typical for me. Granted, I have never been a "fan" before, so I dont have a typical defined way of stanning, but my personality has always been the predictable type. I have always been that person who orders the same thing at restaurants over and over again once she discovers something she really likes there. But Adam, he can dish me up whatever he wants, and I'll be there enjoying the meal. I might like some things on the plate better than others, but taken all together, the variety offered enhances the flavors. When he does something I find lulsy, I find myself thinking giddily, "Oh, that Adam," (said in the same voice inside my head Adam uses for "oh, those pesky relationships...") Adam stanning, I have realized, is making me more flexible. I am opening my mind up to find pleasure in a greater variety of things than I did pre-Adam. I am choosing to order different things on dinner menus and order up different things in my life. I am surprising myself and those who know me best, and that is fun. Thanks to Adam, I am mixing things up and finding that variety really can be the spice of life. ETA: So good to see you back, Catz! That drawing is incredible! Good morning!! CATZ!!!! (oops, you're probably sleeping ) *whispers* So glad the surgery went well and you're on your way to recovery. Love this post, especially the bolded part and you're right, it MUST be tricky as an artist to explore their art while still keeping their loyal fans happy and expanding your fan base further – in addition to pleasing the the suits and the capricious radio PDs, etc. As I've said many times, I'm an "everything-the-menu" girl, so I love that he's constantly changing things up. I have never been one to go for the OTT artists though – the costumes, makeup, jewelry, etc., so that has broadened my mind a lot and I love that I can just LOL and say, "Oh, Adam!!" and not feel that he needs to change for me. Wasn't a huge fan of the goatee, but I am a huge fan of him doing whatever the hell he wants; I can certainly adapt. (But my humble request for no foot-high hot pink mohawks or gratuitous facial piercings still stands, Adam, thanks

First: Glad to hear you're getting better, Catzmadam! And then: Zinnia & Tatum, LOL to that HS's article OK. Maybe it is best to visit my apartment house's paperinkeräysloota :D for a check, LOL. What ever that is in English, help...? LOL maybe paper recycling bin or something like that in English. No need to go digging, Zinnia, I have the paper copy. ;D The article in the paper is actually better than the cut-out clip in the net, but it really doesn't have much about Adam and Sauli in it. It's actually a 3+ page article about the old (and even older) marriages or relationships between Finns/Swedes and foreign celebrities or otherwise famous people. They list such people as Kofi Annan, Roger Moore, Paul Anka and Tiger Woods, who have or have had a Swedish wife. On the Finnish side, they mention Gregory Peck, Ray Charles, Patrick Swayze, Renny Harlin. And lots of others, for both sides. The story is sort of a historical "study" (that's not probaby the correct term for it as it is a newspaper article and not a scientific study but I can't think of a better one right now) with the idea behind it being the continuous rivalry between Finland and Sweden, which Zinnia mentioned. It starts with a statement that if you do a Google search with "Swedish wife", you get 52200 hits. If you Google "Finnish wife", you get only 29300 hits and half of those are related to the Finnish wife carrying competition. If you change the word "wife" to "girlfriend", the result is 60700 - 16 600 in Sweden's favor. Sauli and Adam are mentioned just as an example of the most current celebrity romances between a Finn and a foreigner. The article ends with names of some couples whose marriage/relationship did not last and ends with a sentence: "And after all this, we Finns can only hope that BB-Sauli's love will last." On that last statement, I think we all concur! And lynneville - so sorry about your pet. :( It's always hard to give up of a dear friend. Hugs to you!

CATZ!!!! So happy you're back!! HAPPY BDAY Dena!!....and I just want to comment on that Q102 poll. I'm hoping for a Clay/Archuleta final match up....haha! Cuz seriously, how comical would that be?? A hasbeen with virtually no career, and a kid unknown outside the Idol bubble. Underlines the absurdity of these silly voting things. :

Just talked to bamafan The good news - SHE HAS POWER!!!! The bad news: Power is all she has. When the power came on, her heat came on and smelled awful. She said trees fell on both units and all kinds of dirt and mud was blown inside them. They're not gonna try to run them until they have a professional check them out. She said the insurance company might even total them. Speaking of the insurance copany, they haven't really done anything yet at HER house. They came with a 3 page itemized list and a check for what they were offering to pay for her mother's house (it's empty) and she said it was a ridiculously low amount and her DH refused it. One of the items on the list was a satellite and her mother didn't even have one - it had blown in from the neighbor's house. Bama asked them if they were gonna offer to pay her for the trailor that landed on top of her jeep even though it belonged to her neighbor. The insurance company hasn't even looked at her cars but she said she had already ordered a new convertible top for her Mustang. Until it is fixed, she has nothing to drive. Even though she has power, she has no TV or internet. She said the big satellite of their provider was damaged and it could be a while before that is fixed. She also has no windows. She has no idea if the insurance company will want to replace individual panes or the whole windows - some of the frames were damaged or completely blown out and will have to be replaced. NONE of the debris has been removed. HUGE piles still on the street. Bama's screen porch is on the side of the house on the front. Of course, it has no screen. She said she sat on the porch yesterday afternoon and watched LOTS of rubberneckers drive by looking. She said she felt like she was on parade with all the strangers staring at her. She just smiled at them. LOL Our plan is for me to pick Bama up next Saturday mroning and take her down to Birmingham to meet JustWishin. We'll take her to lunch and find internet access somewhere or go to JustWishin's house so she can get online for a while. She's anxous to say hi to everybody!
