What happens with album releases in China? Does it happen at all? Yes, but <1% of music in China is purchased vs. stolen. yup, I know it is mostly stolen, and so I am wondering if the labels even bother with China... so, is there a drop date for TOH in China? also, their 1% could be bigger than many countries' 100%

I am very Zen about UK radio. There isn't a damn thing I can do about them! Shosh is working her butt off getting Adam into print, on TV, radio interviews, etc. Adam is working hard! Charmaciding everyone! WBR UK has the job of getting GT played. If the UK's exclusionary tactics don't get cracked, oh well! Being played in every country & ahhit or 2 in the US is great! Yes, ITA. I don't think there is anything else WBR, Adam or Shosh can do in the UK when it comes to radio. And all the rest of the UK promo is great. >> But that is mostly because the BBC is constrained by out-of-date government mandates that do not reflect the demographics of the UK, do not reflect the current music world and are protectionist. People in the UK have been trying to reform the BBC Radio mandates for decades and have failed. Sad that one of the world's most important music markets and creative leaders has some of the world's worst music radio. Eventually, streaming and global access to online radio will force the BBC to change. Way more important....right now on iTunes Ghost Town #2 South Africa #3 Estonia #5 Belarus #5 Finland #7 Estonia #8 Denmark #9 Namibia #10 United Arab Emirates #15 Netherlands #17 Australia #17 Poland #19 Turkey #24 Ireland #24 Sweden #26 Bahrain #27 Egypt #31 Mongolia #32 Lebanon #39 Latvia #42 Finland #44 United Kingdom

Yes, but <1% of music in China is purchased vs. stolen. yup, I know it is mostly stolen, and so I am wondering if the labels even bother with China... so, is there a drop date for TOH in China? also, their 1% could be bigger than many countries' 100% China is insignificant in terms of recorded music sales of International artists. Very few people there buy music and mostly they buy Chinese music. There is no reliable data available on the breakdown between local and international repertoire in China. Informal industry estimates suggest Chinese-language music accounts for around 80 per cent of the market and K-Pop and J-Pop for 10 per cent, with the remaining 10 per cent going to international repertoire.
The labels hope that subscriptions fees will take hold in China -- where 650 million people have internet access.
The most popular paid-for tier, charging RMB10 (US$1.60) per month, is Green Diamond, owned by Tencent, with an estimated three million subscribers. However, overall subscriber numbers remain low due largely to a combination of free licensed offerings and online piracy.
The other big gap is Performance rights.
There is optimism also around China’s progress towards joining the 147 other countries that currently have full performance rights. A proposal in its final draft of the amendment of the law by the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) remains under consideration by the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council and it is hoped it will be enacted in 2016. A glimpse of the potential offered can be seen in China’s karaoke market, with performers and producers currently earning an estimated 140 RMB (US$20 million), from the 10 per cent or so of karaoke bars that are currently licensed.
Right now, China is not a top 50 market for music revenues. The only way artists make money from China is to perform there and on celebrity endorsements/commercials. Quotes from: www.ifpi.org/china.phpETA: Just for comparison -- Netherlands is the #11 recorded music sales market in the world -- it is about more than country size. It is also about having people who have the money and willingness to pay for music.

Just got a call from my son. He was listening to the Woody Show on alt 98.7 (Los Angeles) and had to call me because they played Ghost Town. He said they played it blind (without knowing the artist) and then gave their impressions. All loved it...the main dude, who is more critical, gave it an 8 out of 10. They were surprised that it was Adam....main dude got a little snooty when he found out who it was. Will be interesting to see if they play it, again.
