Adam was accompanied by Larry Campbell on guitar and members of The Roots, Jimmy Fallon’s house band. More about Larry Campbell here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Campbell_%28musician%29
Jimmy said “finally” after the performance because Adam had to perform twice due to sound issues, so Jimmy saying "finally" meant we finally got it right.

Review: Adam Lambert Tones Down Excess on ‘The Original High’
By JON CARAMANICAJUNE 15, 2015

ADAM LAMBERT
“The Original High”
(Warner Bros.)
On first flush Adam Lambert was outlandishly specific. In 2009, he exploded “American Idol” from within, a peacock who stood out for his theatrical vocal shrieks and his treating of the show as one long Broadway audition. He came in second, losing to the vocal rice cake Kris Allen, in what felt like a referendum on the unimaginativeness of the American reality-contest voting public.
In the real world, it turned out that his brand of excess was divisive, too. Mr. Lambert has pinballed from concept to concept — an electropop aspirant one moment, a replacement lead vocalist for Queen the next.
Maybe, to succeed, Mr. Lambert had to find a way to submit to something greater. And on “The Original High,” his third full-length record, he’s managed just that. The album is executive produced by Max Martin and Shellback, the Swedish pop mercenaries with abiding love of 1980s flash and 1990s dance music verve. They have found in Mr. Lambert an ability to be vague. Perversely, that’s set him free.
“Ghost Town” is perhaps his best single to date. At the first chorus, it becomes an early-’90s club thumper, and Mr. Lambert doesn’t try to best the beat. Instead, he becomes a house diva, singing with precision and ambition but in service of the song. The strategic restraint continues on “The Original High,” and even into “Another Lonely Night,” which could have come from the “Top Gun” soundtrack. He sings with particular intensity on “Lucy,” a grand-scaled 1980s rock-style epic, but even here he lets the guitar have the loudest word.
Mr. Lambert has attempted pop on this scale before, on his 2012 album, “Trespassing,” but he was still battling with style then. Here, Mr. Lambert has fully committed to formula: 10 out of these 11 songs are under four minutes. While there are a few missteps — Mr. Lambert doesn’t have the R&B sultriness required for “Underground,” and “Rumors” bizarrely cribs the jaunty synth pattern from Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” — there are almost no extravagances. After years of spectacle, Mr. Lambert may have been saved by modesty.

Adam Lambert's 'The Original High' and Nate Ruess' 'Grand Romantic' album reviews:
The good and bad of superloud singers
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Tuesday, June 16, 2015, 2:00 AM
Adam Lambert
“The Original High”
(Warner Bros.)
3 Stars
Nate Ruess
“Grand Romantic”
(Atlantic)
0 Stars
There’s a fine line between “over-the-top” and “beyond-the-pale.” And singers Adam Lambert and Nate Ruess make the difference blindingly clear.
The “American Idol” star and the frontman of fun. both sing for the rafters, aiming for the highest notes, formed into the broadest phrases, pushed by all the wind their lungs will carry.
But Lambert’s rich timbre and wry character make his grand arcs a joy to hear, while the screech and whine in Ruess’ voice could be adapted by CIA interrogators. Repeated exposure to its aching strain could make even the most hardened terrorist crack.
Ruess upped the effect on his solo debut, “Grand Romantic.” Shorn of the compromise of working with a band, he has set his voice on stun.
The music proves equally grandiloquent — enough to make fun. seem like arch minimalists. The songs intensify his band’s love of Queen’s pomp, opening with a track that references the fascistic chorus of “We Will Rock You.”
“Grand Romantic” boasts more orchestrations than fun., pushing Ruess even closer to his natural environment: Broadway. But it’s his singing that defines the work.
Ruess’ voice has great volume, but no body. There’s no roundness, or richness, to his tone. It’s all hard angles, offering no cushion for the screech. Worse, he often pushes his voice beyond its bounds, in the process making him sound as pinched as Alvin or one of the Chipmunks.
Lambert takes a baby step in the other direction on “The Original High,” his third solo work. He toned down the camp, as well as his glorious scream. Even when tempered, Lambert outshines most other singers. The innate theatricality to his voice makes it seem huge no matter his volume or inflection.
The new songs continue to mine the dance-oriented, ’80s hues of his earlier albums, though with a bit more softness around the edges. Lambert’s album has its own Queen connection by featuring a cameo from Brian May.
If the end result isn’t as big a blast as the star’s previous records, it still has his likable tone and witty character to count on. When Lambert does veer into the ridiculous, he knows it, using bad taste to his advantage. By contrast, Ruess doesn’t seem to recognize there’s a difference between good and bad taste at all.

Album Review | Pop
Adam Lambert, ‘The Original High’
By Maura Johnston Globe Correspondent June 16, 2015
Adam Lambert shot to fame on “American Idol” for his commanding reworks of chestnuts like “Ring of Fire” and his eagerness to take his voice as high as it could go; he finished second in Season 8, but got a “Rolling Stone” cover story and a gig fronting Queen out of the deal. On his third post-“Idol” album he pulls back a bit, allowing the contours of his voice to shape mature pop songs about longing and desire. The brooding title track ruminates on viewing the past through rose-colored glasses, his formidable voice dropping at times to a near-whisper; his falsetto makes the verses of “There I Said It” build even more deliberately toward the sorry-not-sorry chorus. Club-ready tracks like “Things I Didn’t Say” and “The Light” pair his moodier outlook with pulsing beats. And Queen guitarist Brian May shows up for a juicy solo on the grinding bad-girl tale “Lucy.” It’s an appealing snapshot of how Lambert has grown, and how he’s still willing to surprise his listeners and himself. What to do to help TOH and Ghost Town Chart!!
Starting today: 1 “Ghost Town” stream = 0.1 album stream and 1 single stream for Billboard!
Check out the details of the Billboard 200 below. But here it is in brief:
Buy 1 album = 1 album sale
Gift 1 album = 1 album sale
Buy 10 tracks = 1 album sale + 10 track sales, 1 for each track you buy
Gift 10 “Ghost Town” tracks = 1 album sale + 10 “Ghost Town” track sales
Stream “Ghost Town” 1,500 times = 1 album sale + 10 “Ghost Town” track sales
Stream any TOH track(s) 1,500 times (mix and match) = 1 album sale + 10 track sales
Tips:
All the streaming services have free trials of their full-featured premium services.
You can stream on more than one service at one. (see list below)
You can also open up a tab and play the “Ghost Town” video which counts for the singles chart. Here’s
The Canadian Album chart does not include streaming or TEAs (Track Equivalent Albums).
UPDATED: The Canadian Singles Chart includes streaming media. Billboard determines the most popular songs in Canada across all genres, ranked by radio airplay audience impressions as measured by Nielsen Music, sales data as compiled by Nielsen Music and streaming activity data provided by online music sources: Spotify, YouTube (including Vevo on YouTube), Rdio, Google Play, Slacker, Nokia MixRadio and Xbox Music.
UK Album chart includes streaming media – “The streaming data which will count towards the Official Albums Chart will be collected from plays via Spotify, Deezer, Napster, Google Play, O2 Tracks, Rara, Rdio and XBox Music, all members of the Entertainment Retailers Association, co-owner of the Official Charts Company – along with record labels association the BPI.” There is a complicated averaging formula explained here: www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/uk-s-official-albums-chart-to-include-streaming-data-for-first-time__8012/
Buying The Original High
Q3 note: I am including information about gifting TOH because many people have asked for it. Gift only if you can afford it and you want to. TOH will do fine without any unneeded excess fan buying. But, if you are buying or gifting, please make sure that it counts. Also, if you want to help TOH chart, and you have some time, you can stream the album on Spotify or another service that Billboard counts for this chart (refer to list below).
2. If you purchase or pre-ordered a digital copy of The Original High, make sure to download it before the week ends on Sunday June 21 at 11:59:59 PM Eastern Time. If possible, download it on Tuesday.
3. If send any digital gifts, make sure that the recipients download the gift copy this week.
4. If you want to gift a copy or two or more of The Original High, do it this week. There is no limit on the number of gifts you can give from one retailer but do not send more than 5 to one address (real or email).
5. You can purchase up to 5 CDs at a time from any US or Canadian retail store. If you want to buy 10 CDs from one retailer, do it in two, non-sequential purchases. In Australia: You can only buy up to 3 copies of TOH or Ghost Town in one purchase if you want the purchase to count.
6. Do not buy in the US and ship to Canada or buy in Canada and ship to the US. Cross-border sales will not count.
7. International gifting is a great thing and there are some fans in other countries who would appreciate a gift but if you have the gift sent to an out-or-country address, it will not count for the chart.
More info on gifting here: adamtopia.com/thread/3064/toh-gifting-thread-canada
Track Sales (does not apply to Canadian Albums Chart)
The new Billboard 200 also includes track sales – so if you want to purchase or gift a track from TOH, it will help the album chart.
Streaming (does not apply to Canadian Albums Chart)
You can stream the album or individual tracks and that will help TOH chart. Only audio streams are counted. There is a full list of what Billboard counts below, and it includes Spotify.
The Billboard 200 Chart (all the details)
6.14.15 by Q3
At 12:00 am (midnight) Monday morning the new chart week begins in the US and Canada.
There are two Billboard albums charts in the US:
1. Billboard 200 – the week's most popular albums across all genres, ranked by album sales, audio on-demand streaming activity and digital sales of tracks from albums as compiled by Nielsen Music.. It is considered the most accurate measure of what albums are most popular.
2. Billboard Albums – the week's top-selling albums across all genres, ranked by sales data as compiled by Nielsen Music.
There is only one album chart in Canada, Canadian Albums which is the top selling albums across all genres. So Canadians have it easy, just buy and gift the album!!
The Billboard 200 is now a component chart
Since the end of November 2014, the Billboard 200 has been based on a formula blending pure album sales, track equivalent sales (TEA) and streaming equivalent plays (SEA).
The current ratios for Album equivalents are:
- 10 tracks = 1 album sale (TEA)
- 1,500 streams= 1 album sale (SEA)
All of the components of the chart – album sales, track sales and streaming plays are counted starting on Monday at 12:00 AM Eastern Time and ending on Sunday 11:59:59 PM Eastern Time.
All the detailed rules
Only those albums which have historically been eligible for the Billboard 200 (including catalog titles) are included, with track sales and streaming sums for songs appearing on those albums now part of the calculation. The Original High is qualified.
The new chart methodology will rely upon Albums and Songs being properly linked together and this is done based upon how the label registered the tracks and album versions. I am certain that WBR has done this correctly.
There are some special rules to the Billboard 200 calculation but none of these rules will have a negative effect on The Original High:
• Only albums or EPs (minimum four songs) are eligible to appear on this chart.
• Current Billboard 200 eligibility rules apply, including the inclusion of catalog titles.
• Minimum pricing rules will be adjusted to include EPs of any length as well, which must retail for at least $3.49 during first four weeks of availability. Normal per track pricing minimums for EPs ($0.39) go into effect thereafter.
• For charting purposes, songs that appear on multiple albums by the same artist will be assigned to the highest ranking album on which the song appears.
• Songs that appear on multi-artist soundtracks or various artist compilations will only be assigned to those albums if the songs do not appear on an artist specific album.
• A multi-artist track which appears on more than one artist’s album will be assigned to both of those artist’s albums.
• Streaming data includes on-demand and tethered audio streams. The Billboard 200 does not include Video streams or Programmed streams. (No YouTube or Pandora or online radio).
• Streaming data and Song Sales data will follow a Monday – Sunday reporting period. In cases where streaming data is unavailable for the complete period, the most recent seven days of streaming will be used for any provider that is incomplete for the week.
• All tracks/ISRCs are rolled up on a song level as currently presented on SoundScan and on Billboard Digital Songs charts. Songs eligible to be merged based on existing Billboard policy will have all sales and streams of various versions added together. (See merge policy below).
• Labels have the option of not merging track versions if they request to assign certain ISRCs to specific albums, but the song will then chart separately on all of SoundScan and Billboard’s sales, airplay, streaming and hybrid charts.

How Billboad/Soundscan merges tracks
Live/Re-Recorded Versions — A live or re-recorded version will be treated as a new song if the original version has passed its time as a potential singles chart item. (Adam has not live track releases yet.)
Remixes count — Billboard will treat re-recorded songs that bear little resemblance to the original recording as a separate and distinctive song for the purposes of chart tracking. The guidelines are lyric and melody: If neither element is similar to the original recording, the two versions will not be merged. A newly recorded mix must be an extension of the original recording, whether musically or lyrically. It is not necessary for the new version to match the original note for note or word for word, but at the very least the musical hook or the lyrics should be similar. If elements of a song (either music or lyrics) are included in a new version which contains vocals by an artist who was not a part of the original recording, or was solely listed as a featured artist, the two versions will not be merged if the lead artist from the original recording has been relegated to featured status or otherwise has minimal presence in the new version. If not merged, the two versions will be listed on the chart with differentiating features either in the title and/or artist field. (The “Ghost Town” remixes should all be counted as “Ghost Town” sales and be credited to TOH track sales.)
There are special rules for multi-artist versions of charity, holiday or other themed songs but none apply to TOH.
Can Adam get another #1 album?
It’s possible but he has some stiff competition from James Taylor and Nate Ruess.
Looks like 3 new releases really matter this week. And there are signs that all three albums are in contention for #1.
06.16.15 ADAM LAMBERT THE ORIGINAL HIGH
06.16.15 JAMES TAYLOR BEFORE THIS WORLD
06.16.15 NATE RUESS GRAND ROMANTIC
There are also 3 albums that could have significant sales and streaming numbers. Taylor Swift’s 1989 appears to be a real threat because of the continued strength of “Bad Blood”. Florence + The Machine will be in its third week, and MUSE will be in its second week and both were #1 for their debut weeks.
FLORENCE + THE MACHINE HOW BIG, HOW BLUE, HOW BEAUTIFUL
TAYLOR SWIFT 1989
MUSE DRONES
There are a number of other new releases but none of them appear to be a "threat".
06.16.15 HILARY DUFF BREATHE IN. BREATHE OUT.
06.16.15 AMOS LEE AMOS LEE LIVE AT RED ROCKS WITH THE COLORADO SYMPHONY
06.16.15 BIG SMO BRINGIN" IT HOME
06.16.15 JILL SCOTT GOLDEN MOMENTS
06.16.15 JORDIN SPARKS RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW
06.16.15 MIKA NO PLACE IN HEAVEN
06.16.15 RICHARD SMALLWOOD ANTHOLOGY
06.16.15 RYN WEAVER THE FOOL
06.16.15 THIRD EYE BLIND DOPAMINE
