Just popping in to say I am LOVING each and every song on TOH - there isn't one I skip. I can't belive how quickly I have been able to learn all of the lyrics - although I do have a long commute.

GT was passed by some songs that have super promo going right now. The Selena Gomez song blew past everybody and the new Tori Kelly single is flying up the chart. This is to be expected. GT managed to stay ahead of the Sam Hunt song that has been threatening all week so I call that good. OT, but I am not sure why the Tori Kelly single is flying up the chart. According to kworb, that song is not charting on itunes (he has a -- in that column). I can understand Taylor, M5, etc. flying up the charts based on the past even though I consider many of their songs what Boy George called "fart on a loop". I hate both their current singles. Is Tori a proven hit-maker? I've never heard of her until recently when I heard she was on Idol. Just did some googling and saw she was an On The Verge artist on her first single but that single was not a smash. Anyway, just wondering why Adam is not accepted on pop radio with open arms when others are. I think that Adam has gotten a great reception and support on Pop radio. GT is Adam's first song on pop radio in 5 years. He is essentially a new artist since pop has about a 2-year memory. Tori Kelly had a pop radio hit with "Nobody Love" which peaked at #16 at the end of April -- so this is a follow-up song. IF "Ghost Town" moves up to the mid-20's on pop radio (I think it may end up Top 10 on HAC), Adam's second single will get a longer look and have an easier path. It still depends on the music. Regarding Tori Kelly not having sales, her current single is #140 on iTunes (it was a free download with the album preorder), SBU #67, NL is at 107, her album is at #3. Her album is forecast to debut this week with 60-65K units. OT -- but it is a joke that anyone is claiming Tori Kelly has anything to do with Idol since she did not make the Top 24. I think this is just an attempt by the Idol bloggers who remain to drive traffic.

WWFM and IIHY was 5 years ago! With 2 major F-ups of single choices in between! Adam hasn't a song on Top 40 since 2010! I know that but I still don't think Tori's numbers were that impressive on her first single. I don't even think it sold gold. Tori was no Meghan Trainor or Tove Lo or Lorde who had smash first hits. So I am not sure why it is warranting so many adds and spins to easily surpass Adam who has had bigger hits in the past, even though it was several years ago. Plus I would have hoped Adam's profile was raised with Queen and Glee but apparently it wasn't. Anyway, as Rihannsu said, I'll no longer discuss it, as I still don't get it even with peoples' explanations. Just an explanation about moving the discussion. You raise an interesting question. No need to stop the discussion but it does not belong in the daily general news thread. We have a weekly numbers and strategy thread and that is where these kinds of things are discussed. Please post the question over there and I (and others) will respond to it with the specifics needed to answer your question about the mysterious ways of radio. >> In any case, I will post a longer explanation in the numbers thread. Maybe that will make more sense. >> One of the nice things about the music business is that one artist's success helps related artists. I do not agree that Tori Kelly should be linked to American Idol BUT that puts a successful pop star related to Adam on all the streaming and retail sites. We should all be rooting for Tori. *** Regarding Adam's profile -- neither Queen or Glee have anything to do with the audience for pop music. Queen was once very big in the US and Canada -- but they peaked in popularity here around 1980 -- so there youngest fans are around 50 -- most are over 60, male, rock music fans -- not likely to be interested in synthpop music -- particularly a deep house track. Doing Queen was great for Adam is no many ways -- credibility, financially, artistic development, etc. but it did not help him with pop radio. Glee was fun but the show has a very small audience.

The first thing you have to do is get out of your head the idea that anything that radio does is going to make sense. You'll spend a lot less time being puzzled. There is so much back room politicking involved in radio that no one looking at it from the outside will ever be able to figure out what is going on. We follow the charts in numbers but the first thing you have to accept is that predicting the charts is pretty much impossible.
