I was just thinking that Cassie would make a wonderful judge too. I also started thinking that maybe JLo and Steven (and maybe even Randy) don't really know that much about music techniques and theory. Do you think that is possible? Not only possible, but probably true. I have played musical instruments but I have never sang. If the discussion is on playing an instrument, I can hang, but I don't know jack about siinging technique. I am pretty sure Randy is in the same place. Further, I had no idea how little I knew until Cassie started to educate me. IMO, Steven and JLo also don't know a lot about the technical requirements to sing well. JLo is not a singer. Steven is a singer, but it would appear that most of his knowledge is based on natural talent with limited vocal coaching. That being said, Steven may not understand the technical aspects of singing, but he does understand artist interpretation. I watched an interview today with Steven and Seacresst and he gave some insights on artist interpretation. He is new to the entire idol thing and is not yet comfortable in voicing his opinions. He is aware that of that. In fact, he said his own dad called him out on some of his judging. At this point, he is being too sympathetic to the young talents. Given some time, he may get the judging thing right.

Ooooo, being a judge would be trippy!!!! The musician and the teacher in me would love it. But, wait, in front of cameras and millions of viewers? Maybe not... ??? ??? I share your thinking about the judges' expertise. They have many years in the business and many years of experience performing on stage, so they can address those areas. But, I suspect they don't have the theory and technical training in voice. I base that on the lack of specific feedback about vocal production, and on some just plain wrong comments. (I recall Randy praising Adam's "false" when he wasn't singing in falsetto at all.) Of course, we see this season in particular, that their purpose is NOT to be vocal experts.

Thanks guys, I'm not much of a poster but ILUVAFLSFM and if he thinks Haley is a good choice I will not dispute his wisdom. (He knows sanging) I agree with his wisdom. I luv Haley and I luv Scotty and the two of them in the finale might be interesting. It could be the sexy/growling girl and the christian/jock guy (Kiris/Adam) and I am stoked to find out how the voting will go. The game has begun and I am finally interested in the outcome.

It doesn't require technical skill to tell when someone is off-pitch. There is no excuse for their poor judging except that they don't want to say anything to make the viewers mad at them! Well, yeah, there is that! Maybe they don't have that sensitive an ear for pitch?

Do the Durbin fans know we are not that powerful? We couldn't even get Adam a win! ;D ;D Last night, Adam was dealing with Lisa gate. He obviously watched AI late on his DVR. He was just chilling on Merlot and Sauli and doing some late night tweeting after the idol voting was closed. Now he is the orchestrator of JDs downfall. Mwahhaha!!! Ridiculous. To add to that, we are all Adam's evil minions. We don't have a will of our own, but are directed by His Majesty on what to think or do.l BS. I love me some Adam, but he does not dictate my musical taste. Well, not for the most part. Until another singer captivates my ears and my heart as much as Adam, then as Beyonce says " To the left" Cool! I've never been a minion before, evil or otherwise. One of the things that turned me against James weeks ago was his pandering to the audience, trying to work them into a frenzy, when if he had done his job, sing his face off, they would have responded. When I worked at the HOB, I got so irritated when the bands (Paramore, Shinedown included) weren't getting the response they wanted because they weren't all that great, they would fall back on dropping the "f" bomb so the kids would start hooting or they would do old faithful, "What's up Myrtle Beach??!!" and everyone would scream. Re-watching Adam on AI you see him do his performance, accept the love from the audience, and take what the judges had to offer. No matter the song, he didn't resort to cheap tricks. And I agree about the voice being the first thing that hooked me on Adam. He was cute at the auditions, but not someone to visually knock your socks off. That came with B & W then the final blow was struck with ROF.

Well, I'm not that great at hearing pitch problems -- lots of times when it is pointed out on AI, I think "oh really" and I know other members of my family are not hearing it either. I'm sure that lots people in the AI audience are in the same boat and would like to have that pointed out. Now Adam always sounds good to me.

I know we're about done for tonite.
Today as I was filling up the tank on my old car, I told someone how a 'friend' recommended I should never be without a tank of gas. That 'friend' is "bamafan" - who I've never met, but who gave me good advice.
That's the way I think about everyone here. You are my friends. You give me advice. You are intelligent and snarky and sweet and sexy and bring joy to me.
You helped me through my fear with Penelope - By the way, she now has the fattest little cheeks I've ever had the privilege to kiss.
Tomorrow we will say goodbye to our cocker spaniel, Cameo. She is thirteen, and her story is too sweet and too sad for me to say tonight. I come here because there is nowhere else to go to cry before I sleep. I know all of you fearless people understand. She is a good girl, and she knows I love her. It's so hard to know it's time. Someone says there's a rainbow for our selfless, loving companions. Where?

K ~ I might be a TOTAL bitch in saying this - but YO DUDE.......... James' final song was a bit pitchy! Was a heartfelt goodbye, though! <3! Next to go...... Lauren! Just my opinion! I'm team Haley allllll the way! As Adam said she is effortlessly BADASS! Went back & watched her earlier stuff (wasn't always home to see real-time) incredible! Hope she wins - in my mind she's the winner already! But, you never know...............................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is a good girl, and she knows I love her. It's so hard to know it's time. Someone says there's a rainbow for our selfless, loving companions. Where? Since this is a mostly dead thread, and a slow day, please indulge me in posting this message to momtomany. We who have loved and said good-bye to our dear four legged friends DO understand and cry with you. Here's the poem of the Rainbow Bridge. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
