LOL, no need to apologize to Adam fans ... they had a field day with it. Really, this is the kind of thing Adam fans love because Adam fans are just hysterically cool that way.

mwp, thanks for the props for Nonfiction. Have to say though, Second Skin as the Adam #2 title is a real winner in so many ways. Any excuse for tight clothes is a positive. Hmmm.... maybe he could shed something. Lovely thought. He does have a good relationship with a cute green snake.

It wouldn't surprise me if Adam were at least in part, funding Neil's adventures. I would if I were in Adam's position and I had a sibling who was extremely smart and interested in other cultures around the world. This is a very educational experience for Neil and he's probably learning more than he ever could in a classroom. Neil would never do that. He is very much into his independence. Wouldn't even borrow money for his keyboard! (Of course, he did ask Adam's fans for it. But I think that was a social experiment for him!) I think dad has supported Neil (and certainly Adam in the old days between jobs)

JSYK, The page that was deleted had nothing to do with comments from outsiders. I'm way back here, but as I've been looking for an excuse to post this, I'll offer Unca Dave's comment/reply to Neil. I saved this one with some garish embellishment so I could find it easily. That's the one!

Cassie this question is for you. I too get bummed at the JD comparisons and ther is a post on the AI official forum called "James does not have a pitch problem" by some voice expert and I was wondering what you thought. myidol.americanidol.com/go/thread/view/86789/27579881/James_Does_Not_Have__Pitch_ProblemIf you have time to explain in the Masterclass thread if that is more appropriate, just curious because what I hear just doesn't sound good but you are so good at explaining this stuff. Thanks! Since it is a slow day here, I think it would be okay to answer this here instead of the masterclass thread? The woman has impressive credentials -- much more impressive than mine. But, I have to disagree with her, in a way. Well, in many ways, but for now, just about pitch. IMO, James does not have a pitch problem but a control problem. Meaning, I don't think it is a matter of him not hearing a bad pitch. If that were the case, he would be consistently off, and he would not correct himself quickly. No, he doesn't have exact control of his voice and his breath support. So, he doesn't always hit the pitch square on. Think of shooting a gun at a target. Shooting a gun is incredibly easy. Just hold it up, pull the trigger, and blam. But, hitting the bulls eye of a distant target, and even better, hitting the MIDDLE of that bulls eye takes hours, years of practice. Total familiarity with the gun, and the impact of various environmental conditions. Perfect eye/hand coordination. And the proper breathing so as not to cause the slightest movement of the gun in your hand. (At least I think that's true. I am not into target shooting, or shooting at all.) Singing is easy. Just open your mouth, activate your vocal cords and your breath, and blam. But singing consistently on pitch, squarely on pitch, up and down your range, at different loudness levels, at different speeds..... that takes drill and practice for years. Not just singing songs for fun, but doing vocal exercises, singing scales, singing intervals (jumping from one note to another). Just as you practice hitting the center of the target when you shoot, you have to practice hitting the center of each note as you sing. Then, you also have to practice your breathing. Breathe a little too hard when you are shooting for a note, and it will go sharp. Don't have enough breath, and you will go flat. Don't have good muscle control and your pitch will vary as you hold a note for a long time. What I hear when James sings is an inconsistency in the pitch. Usually slight, but still unpleasant. Some notes right on, some notes a tad sharp or flat. It occurs more often when he is moving around.... a sure sign of lack of strong breath support. That's my opinion, and I am sticking to it! Cassie, don't sell yourself short regarding credentials. Anyone can say things that "sound" impressive. This person could be singing in bars, community choruses, and opera groups that might not be very good. I don't know the level of her experience. But I do know from spending so much time reading your posts that you know a hell of a lot about vocal production. I also know that JD sings out of tune a fair amount. He sort of reminds me of Kris Allen, who I couldn't really listen to live (CD is ok and we know why). There were just so many notes that were off--and I DO have a good ear. (Yes, I do. )
