What's going on with the timing of these vids lately? Have they always been this far behind the single releases? I'm thinking of Judas, Run The World (Girls), and now Cook's single. It seems like they're being released when the single is already falling and vid can't save the songs. Agreed, very strange timing, OR could it be that they are just releasing too many videos too close together ? So they start sinking right away because people know a new one is coming out practically every week ? Or are the songs just not as good as they could be ? :  |

I may be misremembering, but I thought in the MTV days (you know, when they played vids), the video WAS the "coming out" of the song. I remember songs like "Beat It", "Like a Virgin", "Take On Me", first as vids BEFORE hearing them on the radio. Even more recent songs like Miley's "Can't Be Tamed" was a vid very early (though that song tanked for different reasons - still annoyed about it as I thought it was an wonderfully catchy single, an awesome vid, and it *should* have done great). I truly think the single "For Your Entertainment" was enormously enhanced by its early-ish release vid. Now, "Whattya Want From Me"'s vid came out late-ish, but that can probably be explained by FYE being yanked so fast from radio there wasn't a chance to finish it ahead of time. |

Off topic, but I was just at MJs reading Idol news and the latest news is a thread about David Cook's music video. It just came out on i-Tunes and they are giving it away as a free download. Well, at least they didn't spend a lot of money on production. |

Cook's single just came out last month, right? Didn't Adam's videos come out 3-4 weeks after the single? I can't remember, but it seems they did not come out right with the single release. The thing that surprises me is that it is a free download. I like David Cook, a lot. I'd like to see album 2 and his single be successful.

When a song is a hit -- it all works fine.
In planning, I am sure the Cook plan looked great. Debut TLG on Idol and release the single to radio to build awareness, then put it for sale, then release the music video on iTunes to give the song another boost right before David returns to perform on Idol. Problem is that TLG wasn't a hit, and the video was already produced. I think the shift to make it free was a great idea. What else could they really do?
Cook's album doesn't release until late June so they have time to release another single.
