I'm not a Lee fan at all. But IMO, this is not right. It has nothing to do with his record sales or how tough this business is. He's the reigning Idol and he should be there. I hope this year's 13 are taking note of how stinking and short lived their fame can be!

I feel sorry for the guy: LeeDeWyze Lee DeWyze by Squirrely007 Hey guys, no I'm not performing at the Finale. I wasn't asked to . A lot of questions so I thought I'd fill you in. Talk to you soon I may be in the minority of one, but I don't feel sorry for Lee. He is like tens of thousands of other struggling singer/songwriters with guitars around the country who search long and hard for gigs in local clubs and bars hoping for their big break. Lee got his break -- although I don't see anything unique or extra talented about him that I haven't seen in many local performers who hold down day jobs while trying to book gigs on Friday and Saturday night. He got exposure in front of 30 million viewers week after week on Idol, toured the country as the headliner on the Idol tour, made a record, and now has steady work doing what he loves to do. It is up to him to make the most out of this rare opportunity and these wonderful contacts he now has. If his talent, skill, originality, and charisma don't win him a large following and music business acclaim, that's squarely on him. I know that sounds callous, but that is the music biz, guys. I checked out what he is up to currently, and he has a summer tour booked in what looks like mostly college campuses and clubs around the country. I watched a couple of tour performances on YT, and he has the typical WGWG line up; himself with guitar at the mic, with a keyboard backup and a drummer. That lineup and performance style fits the venues in which he is booked. Tens of thousands of singers/guitar players/piano players dream of hitting it big and becoming a star. They are lucky if they can find consistent work in a club on weekends. I know. I have a sister who is immensely musically talented, and has a gig two nights a week at a local bar, which is constantly threatening to close. She is one of a handful of piano stylists who even work in her town. That's reality. Lee has had the dream with Idol, he has had the wide exposure, the contacts, the contracts, the opportunities. That's all very good. If the producers of Idol do not think that his performance will enhance their big 10th anniversary finale, that's just a business decision. I don't think they "owe" him an appearance. ITA with your post as it relates to the music business. Lee got his opportunity and it is his responsibility to make the best of it. He has a huge foundation to build on. That can be said of any that particpate in American Idol and have placed fairly high in the competition. That includes Adam. That being said, I think they should have given him the opportunity to at least make an appearance at the finale to hand off the title. After that, they could kick him to the curb if that is what they want to do. If nothing else, it would have been a kinder gentler way of saying that "We've done all we can for you at this time, but this business relationship is not working and it is time for us to part ways."

Cassie, I agree with you a million percent in terms of the music biz. Lee has none of the characteristics to make it big, IMO. No IT factor, no charisma. His talent wasn't big enough to overcome the Idol stigma. But I still feel bad for him in terms of the finale. Pretty cold to not spare him a 3-minute spot, or even as part of a duet or medley. That's harsh, and it doesn't send a great message to viewers in terms of the show's premise (or pretense, more like) of finding stars. I joked earlier today that it seems that AI wants to pretend Season 9 doesn't exist, kind of like the 13th story of a hotel.

This is the closest I got to him in Atlanta....he 'signed' my iphone. I say signed because it was a scribbled circle-thing. Which quickly wore off. But that's OK I know it was there. He was so serene. Aww, he was, wasn't he? That was a such a fun night! First time I met ya, and I was so sure you would be completely batshitcrazy awesome, and you were :D Yep, you were a trooper to hang out there. Must have been the booze.

Pretty cold of Idol to exclude him completely. :-/

Idol is about the audience and ratings. Many of the people in the Idol audience supported Lee -- even if they did not buy his music. This is a 2 hours show fill with crap like Kara in a bikini and pants on the ground. So it would not kill them to recognize Lee and his fans with 2% of the broadcast time for a cameo.

Tho it does seem kind of mean I don't think Lee being on the show should have anything to do with his sales. If he sold one record, I think he should still be there. The reigning Miss Universe should be on the new Miss Universe Show. The reigning Miss America, etc., etc. Lee should be on the finale. I'm not even a Lee fan and I think this is awful! Even Taylor was on the finale after his season! And he's been the worst treated Idol of any of them! (Until now) NoAngel, I think you are right. They want to pretend Season 9 never happened.
