Quickie update. Women's stuff came back good, so good in fact that they are suspicious that it's too good and I get to go back in for tests in three months instead of six. #can'twin
Too early to hear about the other but the docs talked me down from the cliff and for the moment I'm no longer planning my early demise. This one really did have me spooked and the woulda, shoulda, coulda checked it out sooner recriminations flying thru my brain at all hours really worked a number on me. It really does make you think about things. I've got a letter started to my DS that I think I'll give him for his upcoming birthday. My house got a lot cleaner with my 3AM bursts of nervous energy, now if only I can keep some of the weight loss going and make some diet changes.
I tell ya. This place was always in my mind. Should I post, no I can handle, should I post, no still hanging in, should I post, yes I can't take it any more I'm crawling outta my skin. It's like a special well that you know will always have water in it when everything else runs dry and you know that as soon as you post that water will be running in your veins.
Thank you for giving me water.
eta - sugaree, talk with your vet and make sure you agree on when, how etc. I was mad/sad, and still am 3-4 years later, on why the how long between steps took so long. Sending water your way.

Trying to draw in some collective wisdom here.
As some of you know, I was recently notified that the program I work on, and therefore my job, is slated to be eliminated next year in another round of budget cuts. Knowing that finding a new position could take months in this economy, I decided to start looking right away rather than wait around to see if the cuts go through.
I had an interview yesterday for a new job that is right up my alley. I just heard from the hiring manager that I was the leading candidate and they are going to do reference checks next week. I'm really hopeful of getting an offer.
So not to put the cart before the horse, but does anyone have any advice about salary negotiation? I suck at it. According to salary surveys conducted by my professional organization, I am currently underpaid for the kind of work that I do, and my workplace has been under a salary freeze since 2007. So I could really use a raise.
On the other hand, the fact that I am senior-level in pay is part of the reason my program was eliminated; two lower-level positions could be saved by canning me. So my pay level made me a target in some ways. Also, I really need the job and in my heart of hearts I would take it just for a lateral move.
Any advice would sure be appreciated. I'm excited and hopeful. Being in a precarious job situation at my age (47) has really been stressing me out.

Thank you for your lovely posts. My mom was 3 weeks away from being 95. She was in a nursing home, but I had dinner with her every night, unless I am out of town. Last night she was fine. Today when I went, the ambulance had just arrived and the nurse was getting ready to call me. Her breathing was very labored and she was disoriented. She passed away, in the hospital, 2 1/2 hours later. She became alert long enough to look at me and hold my hand. It was very peaceful and absolutely no pain.
