Oh chapf - this is just beautiful. I am crying happy tears! You are the best! Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Now how do I make this as my avatar and bring to the main news thread?

Mayumi, Congratulations! May your move be smooth and effortless. I hope to meet you sometime. Perhaps at an Adam concert in what will be your new home state.

As some of you may already know, my brother got a job in New York and he is travelling there on October, 18th. He is allowed to stay for one month in the company's apartment, after which period he is expected to have found a place of his own. We are hoping that he is going to get some help from his co-workers during his search, but I would really appreciate it if some of you could help with advice as to where he should look, because we don't know absolutely anything about good and safe places in New York. He is interested in a cheap but decent apartment with good connections by public transportation to his work place. I think one month is not enough for him to find a nice place, so we need all the help we can get. His work address is Park Avenue 280, Manhattan, but he knows that he can't live in that area, because it's too expensive. His budget for apartment rent, furniture rent and other expenses (I think bills?) is 2,500 dollars a month. It sounds huge to me, but it's probably very little for NY. Also, he is going to stay there for at least one year, he's got his visa for that long. I'm pretty much terrified, he is going to live alone, and it's very important that the neighbourhood is nice. He is going there with one suitcase and I am going to lose my mind with worry. All I need is some advice as to where he should look, which areas of NY. Thank you in advance!!! PS/// It's better for him to travel longer to work, with nice place to live, than for him to live closer in a bad place. He is young, he doesn't mind travelling:) (too much)

aleks... why don't you post something on the main thread like, "If anyone knows NYC really well, can you check out my question in member news!"
nica575 lives there (like tinafea said), but there might be more members, too. Or members who lived in NYC in the past who might have some ideas and/or recommendations!

Okay, PM Nica and post something on the main thread. I can do that, since I woke up at the ungodly hour of 5 am. It's my daughter's fault. She couldn't sleep and apparently decided that blasting music until her ears fell off was an excellent way of falling back to sleep. And it was, for her. I on the other hand had to get up and make myself a mug of coffee. I think she's hitting puberty, god help me;)
