glittergma, Both your grandchildren are lovely! It is wonderful that they are close enough that you can spend time with them!! Thank you! I actually moved here when Ryan was 1 so I could watch him grow up. My boys & their Grandparents were very close and I just wanted my Grandkids to have that. And, I had no family left where I was living anyway, so it was easy to leave. I never doubted that I could love a baby that wasn't a blood relative, but I was still overwhelmed by the love I felt immediately for this little one. She was ours from the time they brought her home. And, she was the tiniest thing I had ever seen. She has the most wonderful personality and is such a good baby. We are all so very happy that the wait is over and she is officially ours forever! And, Ryan is such a good big brother. He is her favorite person! Life is good!!

I haven't checked this thread in a bit. Stardust, I'm sorry to hear about your cat -- and especially sorry if it was Purina's fault. It's one thing to die of natural causes, but possibly to be poisoned by a trusted pet food company is not right.
Glittergma, congratulations -- your grandkids look beautiful!
Aleks, your brother landed in the Upper East Side! -- very nice!!! I've only been to New York once a few years ago. I loved it! We stayed in a flat in the Upper West Side across Central Park from the Met and Frick Museum. I highly recommend the Frick -- it is pay what you can on Sundays between 11:00 and 1:00. When you visit, make sure your brother takes you there!

Last week I had an Intra-Occular Lens implanted in my left eye using cataract surgery. I'm waiting to get the right one done, but had to postpone for a few days as I've been a bit out of sorts. The lenses are toric, multifocal and will not only mean I will never get cataracts, but it means I won't need spectacles of any sort again . The reason for this post is that during the process I discovered something so very interesting that I really wanted to share it. The day after the left eye was done, I went for the first check-up and commented to the opthalmologist that I found the brightness a little disconcerting, nothing really worrying. I said that when I looked only through my right eye, all the colours I saw were warm and rich; through the left everything seemed much lighter and bright. She told me that as we age (40-ish onwards) our eyesight starts to change as the lens becomes less flexible. Along with this, the lens gel itself becomes browner. So, what I am seeing with my left eye is the true colour, thorough a clear lens, and the right sees colours tinged with brown. My living room wall is painted a colour I always thought was a greeny-blue; now I can see it's actually bluey-green ( ). Scariest yet is taking a sandy-brown cardi(gan) out of the washing machine today and looking for the red item that had got itself accidentally mixed in! It now looks almost mauve. It's really weird to look at the same object through first one eye, then the other and see the dramatic differences . I wonder if this warming-up of colouring that we see as we age contributes to our 'rose-coloured' view of certain things/people .
