Aww, glittergma, Foster sure is lucky to have you. Sounds like you're doing everything right. Hang in there, deep breaths, and just know you're doing what you can. That's great news about the 50% improvement. Keep up the good work, Foster! TY MWP!! Actually, I'm the lucky one here. Lucky that Foster found me all those years ago. He is just the best natured, laid back dude ever! The Vet & the Techs all told me over and over how good he was. He loves everyone & everyone loves him. I'm trying to do everything right, for sure. I've done some research, and years ago when I had my diabetic kitty, I was on a mb and there was a lot of info on renal failure there, including doggies. Also, Dr. O is awesome about speaking in *real words*. No big technical terms for him...lol! BTW, Foster ate a little more (deli roast beef) and peed again. No more water yet, but I'll keep encouraging him. I have some chicken broth and am thinking about some of that with cooked rice in it. Foster didn't hardly eat anything for the 3 days he was at the Vets. So, his tummy is a bit irritated per: Dr. O. Broth with rice is very soothing and easy to digest, so that's my next plan. Thanks again for all the support. I'm hanging in....

glittergma..... Man! What an emotional rollercoaster!!! I'm sure you said you had four days at home? But what happens when you go back to work? Is there a neighbour who can check on Foster every couple of hours while you're working. Jeeez, how stressful to have a sick furry at home when you can't be there to watch over him. :-/ Yep, seoulmate, it's been a very emotional rollercoaster. I've been in this position many times in my life and it never gets easier. But, I'll be okay. I go back to work on Tuesday. I'm hoping for more improvement by then as far as eating & drinking goes. I'll call the Vet Tues. AM and report what's going on at that point. Right now, I can come home at noon & check on Foster as it's only about a 7 minute drive. July 12th, we move to a different facility and it's a 25 minute drive, so that won't be possible. Also, my Vet does doggie daycare, so if Foster seems like he shouldn't be left alone, I can always take him there in the AM & pick him up after work. If Foster is eating good by then, then he will be fine being left home. To look at him, you would never know there is anything wrong. He looks fine. He's sleeping a lot, but I'm sure he's a bit weak from not eating and all the procedures. If he recovers enough to be a good candidate, he will have a Dental, which will also help his kidneys. He had one 2 years ago and it's amazing how bad his teeth got so fast. I missed that one, so the blame game starts. Not going to dwell on that right now though. I'm just thankful that I have these next 3 days off as I really think they will be critical. Right now, the main thing he needs to do is continue to eat and drink. So far, so good on that. My boy is definately a fighter, so I'm going to keep on fighting right along with him! Thanks for all your concern. Everyone is just so nice!! I love you all so much!!! Ok, computer time is up. Back out to sit with my boy. He's laying on his bed in the living room and I'm not actually going to sit on the floor with him. He's kind of acting like *Gee whizzz, Mom. Can't a guy take a nap without you all up in my face?* So, I'll just sit on the couch and he'll know I'm close by.

hehe...awwwww glittergma, you're the coolest mom ever!! Foster is one lucky boy!! Spoil him rotten....I've been there - I remember hand feeding my darlin' girl turkey during her final days. Sounds like Foster has a fighting chance though - 50% improved!! Yay!! ...and the fact he's acting like nothing is wrong is wonderful! We're here for ya....positive energy is flowing your way! I've got to say that I love hearing from you...whether it be about Adam or your family....you are special!

Glittergma, I have a suggestion for you. I had one sick doggy a few years ago, it took weeks to figure out the diagnosis which was ultimately from a barium scan. Anyway, I digress. When he was sick the vet suggested letting him have some Vanilla Ensure to drink, both for the calories and also for the fluids. We were at the go with whatever works phase. It is also easy on the tummy. I would also go for the low sodium broth since Foster's problem is his kidneys.

Quick update & then I'm off to bed. Been a long day! Foster is doing really well. He's still drinking water, which he wouldn't at the Vets or at home earlier this week. He's eaten deli ham & deli roast beef, Fancy Feast chicken cat food lol! He only wants one kind though. Wouldn't touch the chunkey kind. ? I've been giving him small amounts every 1.5 to 2 hours and he's kept everything down. I'm still going outside with him to see what's coming out of him...haha That's all fine too. He started coming to where I was sitting so I could pet him. He's gotten several massages today. He really loves that! I'm in my bedroom right now and he's laying right beside me where I can reach him. Guess he really did miss me. awwww He definately seems a bit perkier (if that's a word). Right now, he's snoring softly. Such a sweet sound. The kitties have all been loving on him. They've cleaned his face and rub up against him, which he loves. They missed him too! So, right now, all is good in my world. My boy is home and seems to be feeling better. Maybe I can actually sleep tonight, which I'm going to work on right now. Thanks for the kind words, durberville! You are very sweet. Tinafea, I hadn't thought about Ensure, which is really silly as I work in LTC. Might give that a shot. But, he does seem to be taking in enough food right now. Nice to have a back up plan though. Also, I tried the rice & chicken broth that my old dog used to love, and he would have nothing to do with it. Good night, all you wonderful people!!! My heart is full!! You're the best!!! ~S~

glittergma - Foster's situation sounds almost exactly like that of my son & DIL's pug "Frankie". The vet recommended putting him to sleep and they were moments away from doing it when they decided to get another opinion. That vet was somewhat optimistic so they decided to wait & see. That was 6 mo's ago and although Frankie is not "cured" he is doing very well!

And, I'm so lucky to have the most awesome Vet who I trust completely. He's always been optimistic, but honest. So happy that Frankie has proactive parents! Glad to hear he is doing well. Foster got up with a wagging tail this AM. Was so ready to go outside & do his thing..hehe! He's still drinking water, had some turkey deli meat & kitty food for breakfast, another trip outside & is now taking a nap. *One day at a time* is my motto right now. And, I actually got a pretty good nights sleep last night. I did wake up quite frequently and listened for Foster. He was right beside my bed and quietly snoring. It's a new day!! I'm very thankful for everything and everyone right now. ~Hugs~

glittergma! Wonderful to hear that Foster is improving and that you both had a good night's sleep. Hang in there, we are all rooting for you guys. Your guardian angel was sure looking out for you that you found a great vet at a new place. Thanks for the heads-up about the dental...I've been putting it off since the last one - Max was so wonked out from it. Will definitely have to schedule it. I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend together and that everything will just get better and better. Love to all your family
