I feel like I know some of you so well already that it is OK to let you all know that I have a sister in emergency with very serious heart complications arising from chemo therapy for lung cancer, and the consequential blood clotting...and thinners. It is very scary right now and it is a ferry ride and a 16 hour drive to get there.....but so much more convenient to have a vehicle. So depending on the news I get in the am I will be holding tight......driving across country....or catching a flight. I lost my youngest sister to cervical cancer 12 years ago and now this. Yes...she is a long time smoker and it is smoking related. I am anticipating that checking in here periodically will become my major respite and pleasure for the next while. Put out all the good thoughts to the universe that you can..... Thank you all. Sending all kinds of healing thoughts your way. Remember that we are here for you. |

mszue - What a tough situation - your sister's health scare compounded by the difficulty for you to get to her. I hope for the very best news possible for her and for you.

Thank you for your kind thoughts all..they are thankfully received. I still haven't heard from my sil re the current condition of my sister but I am trying to get there as quickly as possible. The ferry serivice is the main obstacle to getting there quickly....along with the distance required...and my sadly inadequate finances...long story...I have been teaching for a US university [distance delivery] for 12 years but they have no decided to restrict teaching contracts to American citizens so my main source of income dried up a couple of months ago!
The only ferry I can get to the mainland leaves at 4pm and gets me to Tswassen around 6:30 pm. I cannot possibly drive to Calgary thru the nite...I will end up in a ditch somewhere if I try that.
I know this is a lot to ask and a long shot...on short notice....and a great imposition but nothing ventured nothing gained :-} Is there is anyone on Atop that lives within a couple of hours of Tswassen/Vancouver...ideally close to the TransCanada.....that could put me up to sleep for a few hours tonight so that I could get on the road at 6 or 7ish and make the trip in one day.
Love you all and again, really appreciate your caring and this place. I will be fine whatever happens...and who knows, I may get a call that everything is under control and not to panic re time but I am putting this out just in case! If I have more time I have a friend along the way to visit but they are not on the direct route and there is not time to visit them if I am in a hurry.

oh mzsue....I'm so sorry to hear about this! Sending positive energy to you and your sister - it's so difficult dealing with family emergencies when one lives far away.
Please look after yourself and stay strong! Miracles happen!

Mszue - thinking of you and your sis - hope you get there soon and that she will improve.
Lost my younger sis 12 yrs ago too ( car accident in another country) and can empathize with your anguish about getting to your sister as soon as you can. Still have two sisters left and they are so precious and my best friends.
Praying for the best for your sister and you...

mszue, it all sounds horrifically stressful! I really hope someone here can help; if anyone can you know they will . Here's hoping that everything turns out for the best, whether it be you get the help you need or even better, you hear that you don't really need it . |
