Just want to add some visual inspiration/motivation via frankensteinweekend.tumblr.comUg. "Last night, Tennessee's Governor, Bill Haslam, signed into law the bill repealing the civil rights of gay and trans people in Nashville. With your help, we put up a real fight trying to pressure the Governor to do the right thing and veto this hateful bill. In a few short days, over 10,000 signed our open letter to the largest corporations making up the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce, a big supporter of the legislation -- and they noticed. Twelve of those companies were forced to release statements distancing themselves from the bill (Caterpillar refused). Alcoa even went farther and asked the Governor to veto it. And minutes before the Governor signed the law -- too late to make any difference -- the Chamber of Commerce reversed its position and issued a statement opposing the bill." -AMERICAblog.com

Which companies helped us and which screwed us re: the TN hate law Posted by John Aravosis (DC) at 5/23/2011 09:08:00 PM Nissan, FedEx, AT&T, Comcast, DuPont, Pfizer, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Caterpillar, KPMG, Whirlpool, Embraer, Alcoa, and United HealthCare all, through their local reps in Tennessee, helped repeal the Nashville civil rights ordinance. Once they were informed that we caught them red-handed, last Thursday, here's how the companies responded - from helpful to totally useless. For people in Portland Oregon: Last week, two men walking across the Hawthorne Bridge holding hands (in the evening, in daylight, in a safe public place with other people watching), were beaten up by strangers. Today at 7:30 pm LGBT organizations and allies of all sexual orientations will be holding hands to make a chain across the Hawthorne Bridge to show support and solidarity: ________________________________ More info about the hand-holding protest: bit.ly/mAHd5b - Portland Mercury blogout.justout.com/?p=33613The statement says, everyone is welcome to join in and holding hands isn't optional _______________________________ More info about the attack: bit.ly/jT6yGQ - Portland Mercury

Not sure if this is relevant here or elsewhere....but this is my best guess. The discussion for today is on whether or not contestants with overt sex-appeal are at a disadvantage on AI because of the voting demographic....brief mention of Adam as possible exception....interesting stuff. mediacommons.futureofthebook.org/imr/2011/05/31/too-hawt-win

It had occurred to me that blandness/safeness/maleness seem to be requirements to win AI lately, but I had never thought of it explicitly in terms of sexual females being doomed. It really rings true to me and is kind of a revelation; the article is very persuasive and well-written. It also helps explain the Haley hatred which up until now has mystified me. Learned something new too - I didn't understand the "trololo" reference so I looked it up and now I know about the trololo guy LOL.

I am appalled by what transpired at a show of Tracy Morgans..(30 rock) in Nashville. www.eonline.com/uberblog/marc_malkin/b246609_tracy_morgan_apologizes_gay_jokes_it.htmlWhile I believe comedians have every right to poke fun and make jokes etc.. I wonder how funny Mr. Morgan would find it if ...say he were a "slave" (a fact in our history) and a comedian made jokes about how it was the slaves "choice" to be a slave.. and to quit whining.. Would "the slave" think it funny if told "you can take being treated like a possession""you take the beatings" so you can take a joke.... how nauseating is this scenario. Well Morgan thinks Women only pretend to like women because they are mad at a man.. and Men..if they can take a dick up the ass then they can take a joke.. If his son came to him and said he was gay.. he better talk like a man and not use "a gay whiney voice" or he'll get a knife and stab him. ... there is way more. It was reported by an attendee that Morgans whole tone changed when "telling these jokes" his voiced filled with hate and contempt. The fact is .. its not funny..things really are not "funny" until in reality we are all equals and are treated equally with the same rights and the same respect. Then the sterotypical things can "sorta" seem funny and when hate isn't present. I can honestly say I will not watch 30 Rock any more..not as long as this guy is on it.. I will step up my letters to my representatives.. this shit has just gone on to long. reply from Tina Fey ( not enought as far as I am concerned) insidetv.ew.com/2011/06/10/tina-fey-tracy-morgan/

As promissed, I am copying this from the daily news to here in case this is where it belongs...tho not that sure this is the natural home either. I went to read this article..and the one above this post from the Sun, and it is getting increasingly difficult to read things online now without giving the media almost unlimited access to your twitter or facebook. In order to comment on this iphone article you had to give them full access to twitter...including your direct messages!! [dm's just till June 30]...to me, that is astounding. Needless to say, there are not many messages in that comment section. Re stopping filming at concerts...imagine if we had not had those concert vids of Suz526 to wait anxiously for.....hovering around youtube waiting to bring them over. I rather doubt this app will be applied and if it is iphones will be available second hand, in masses. There are too many other ways to use or adapt or control an app like this for it to ever see the light of day....hopefully. I will post this in the social comments thread as well in case that is where people would prefer it. I know it is somewhat OT yet not as 1. we did this a lot and will again at Adam's concert. 2. An app. like this could impact the whole fandom and ultimately take the concert business back to the 'old days' were it to work....which I highly, highly doubt. Seriously, do the music execs actually think the GNT would have been as successful as it was without those youtube vids? The more appropriate 'social action' question is around the constant media intrusion into our privacy and its constant attempts to control what, who, and how we see and experience things. The Pandora box of the internet is open and it will not be closed again....and that is not all good or bad. sorry if this does not fit here either......

From Zach Ford, thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2011/06/14/244527/michele-bachmanns-top-10-attacks-on-the-lgbt-community/Michele Bachmann announced her candidacy for president last night at CNN’s Republican Debate. Here is just a sampling of some of her most hurtful and ill-informed statements: 1. DYSFUNCTION AND DISORDERED: “I am not here bashing people who are homosexuals, who are lesbians, who are bisexual, who are transgendered. We need to have profound compassion for the people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life, and sexual identity disorders. This is a very real issue. It’s not funny, it’s sad.” 2. ENSLAVEMENT: “Why is it so dangerous? It leads to the personal enslavement of individuals. Because if you’re involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it’s bondage. Personal bondage, personal despair, and personal enslavement. And that’s why this is so dangerous.” 3. CHILD ABUSE: “This message could be very easily misunderstood. Who is he speaking to — 8 year old boys? And so you have a teacher talking about his gayness. He goes home then, and says ‘Hey mom, what’s gayness? We had a teacher talking about this today.’ The mother says, ‘Well, that’s when a man likes other men and they don’t like girls.’ The boy’s 8, he’s thinking, ‘I don’t like girls. I like boys. Maybe I’m gay.’ And you think, that’s way out there. Kid isn’t gonna think that. Are you kidding? That happens all the time. You don’t think that’s intentional, the message that’s being given to these kids? That’s child abuse.” 4. HEALTH HAZARD?: THINKPROGRESS: Do you agree that homosexuality is a publichealth hazard like smoking? BACHMANN: “Um. I — I don’t have an answer on that. I don’t have an answer. Why don’t I have another question?” 5. GOD SAID SO: “And I took a walk and I just went to prayer and I said Lord, what would you have me do in the Minnesota state Senate? And just through prayer I knew that I was to introduce the marriage amendment in Minnesota.” 6. WAR ON MARRIAGE: On President Obama not defending DOMA: “This is just the beginning in our fight to repeal Barack Obama in 2012. Had Barack Obama been on the ballot in 2010, he would have gone down in a fiery defeat. Yet he continues to push his far-left, socialist agenda on the American people. And today, he has declared war on marriage. I will continue to do everything in my power to fight back against Barack Obama’s attacks on marriage and I hope you will join me by adding your name to my ‘Support Traditional Marriage’ petition.” 7. AN EARTHQUAKE: “This is an earthquake issue. This will change our state forever. Because the immediate consequence, if gay marriage goes through, is that K-12 little children will be forced to learn that homosexuality is normal, natural and perhaps they should try it.” 8. DADT: “I would keep the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.” 9. ENDA: On the Employment Non-Discrimination Act: “No.” 10. IN THE BUSHES: Not a statement, but Bachmann once spied on a gay rights rally, hiding behind some bushes.

The following is far from perfect. I replaced "gay" with "muslim", "jewish", "black" in an oversimplified manner. However, HOW DIFFERENT IS WHAT SHE SAID FROM... (Please please let me know if I have offended you in any way. That is the pole opposite to my intent) If it does offend anyone I apologize ahead. I am trying to point out just how insane this woman is.
1. DYSFUNCTION AND DISORDERED: I am not here bashing people who are black, who are muslim, who are indian, who are jewish. We need to have profound compassion for the people who are dealing with the very real issue of having darker skin and/or a religious dysfunction / religious identity disorder that leads to hell after death. This is a very real issue. It’s not funny, it’s sad.
2. ENSLAVEMENT: Why is it so dangerous? It leads to the personal enslavement of individuals. Because if you’re brown skinned and/or involved in the Jewish or Muslim lifestyle, it’s bondage. Personal bondage, personal despair, and personal enslavement. And that’s why this is so dangerous.
...
...
5. GOD SAID SO: And I took a walk and I just went to prayer and I said Lord, what would you have me do in the xxx state Senate? And just through prayer I knew that I was to introduce the "no discussion of religious differences in school" bill.
6. WAR ON MARRIAGE: This is just the beginning in our fight to repeal Barack Obama in 2012. ...he continues to push his far-left, socialist agenda on the American people. And today, he has declared war on our one true God. I will continue to do everything in my power to fight back against Barack Obama’s attacks on white Christians and I hope you will join me by adding your name to my ‘Support God, he's on our side, he's white, he's male, he's heterosexual, and the only way to truly know him is through Christ’ petition.
7. AN EARTHQUAKE: This is an earthquake issue. This will change our state forever. Because the immediate consequence, if the religious diversity acceptance act goes through, is that K-12 little children will be forced to learn that being Jewish, or Muslim, or black is normal, natural and perhaps they should try it or marry one.
...
Simply disgusting
