Hi Guys, I didn't watch the X Factor, but noticed in my local newspaper that another young man from Santa Cruz, CA with a young son was well received on a singing contest. (The first was James Durbin on Idol. He doesn't really resonate with me, so I'm not a fan, but I wish him well.) This time it was Chris Rene, kind of a melodic rapper guy who has been clean and sober for 70 days. If he can stay clean and keep the gratitude vibe he could be a cool urban-type performer. Anyway, I'm curious as to what you guys thought. nonotme, I thought he was good. Had a nice tone to his voice. His rapping was very good.
The general feeling, on Idol sites, is that he was picked for the drama of his backstory, of "Will he stay sober?! I hope he can. 70 days out of rehab is a very short time.

Thanks, mys*&@^#r. 70 days sober really is a short time! Hope the focus is on helping him to develop his talent rather than a will-he-stay-sober drama, but drama builds viewership for shows...
I never really watched much of Idol, and have watched even less of X Factor, just some youtubes here and there. Having the audition in front of a large audience really is quite different than the Idol audition. The audience response adds to the emotional atmosphere, and may influence the judges as well.

I have a son who has fought addiction battles, and Chris Rene srsly tugged at my heartstrings--->  Plus, I liked the original song he sang, and I think his voice will appeal to a lot of folks, aaaaaand.... he has a sweet sweet smile.  I hope he does really well. |
