Agreed. Wonderful perspective. Frustrating but great analysis! It seems like there are a number of stations backing off their spins. Is this the holiday music kicking in or not enough response to the song? Seems so important that we are requesting and thanking the radio stations.
HAC, on the other hand, shows more noticeable success. Looks like 28 this week and maybe 27 next week. Do we think 25 after the holiday freeze? AT40 for HAC is important. We need to keep voting.

Good starters. Not worried about some leaders backing off. (You guys realize the AT40 voting means nothing but hits to their site, right? ALN is already in their countdown.)

I was sure many other songs would be spun anyway but was not sure about ALN. However, showing interest can't hurt. As far as POP spins required to hit #50 - my perspective is different (unfortunately for me) - I see it as "there were 50 or more other songs that were deemed worthier and were spun more than ALN" last week. I have a hard time getting out of this logic - as rihannsu correctly noted the charts are not about the absolute number of spins but rather a position relative to other's popularity. I can't wait for the first week in Jan. when we'll see some movement, because getting stuck around #50 is not what I want to see to put it mildly. in the meantime I'm doing all those "support" things religiously. skaschep - very interesting data! May be there is some increased media coverage of Adam and/or QAL?

Rats, I was hoping the building chart would screw up again today and not list Guetta's song so we'd still get the spin count for ALN but they didn't. Guess we are out of luck. Hopefully the 5SOS song will drop out tomorrow and ALN comes back in so I can back fill and figure it out.

Excellent post Rihannsu. May i steal parts of it for twitter?! I will credit you. Didn't see this until just now, sure no problem. I was out getting a hard drive for my desktop that died. Restoring back up now and keeping my fingers crossed that it all works.

May be there is some increased media coverage of Adam and/or QAL? But even the chart position doesn't really give you an idea of popularity with radio. Remember this is only a measure of how popular the song is with radio programmers and chart position alone doesn't give you an idea of that either because not all songs are being spun on the same number of stations. The Timberlake song that just jumped into the top 50 is on 58 stations (958 spins) but the Guetta song is on 142 (989 spins) with Guetta only 31 spins ahead. So JT is being spun more times per station but Guetta is on 2.4 times more stations. How do you decide which is more popular? ALN is on at least 79 stations so is it actually more popular than JT's song even though JT has the higher chart position? This is what I mean, it is not in any way straight forward as there are many moving parts to the whole picture. Also remember that we are only looking at the Published panel of stations. There are unmonitored stations playing songs as well that aren't considered for published chart positions. The US is a HUGE country and even WWFM went unplayed in some of the major markets of the country. There is no visible push right now on ALN and other than the holiday shows there has been relatively little promo for the single here in the US so I am actually quite surprised at how the song is doing considering it is nowhere on the itunes charts. Radio is actually doing a nice job with this song considering the fact that it has no sales presence and little promo. Absolutely nothing at this point to be disappointed about. We'll just have to wait and see how it all shakes out after the holiday freeze.

I thought we were voting for a spin. When does it appear on the countdown or has it?

I thought we were voting for a spin. When does it appear on the countdown or has it? It made the countdown last weekend at #39 and was #39 again this weekend. It won't get any additional countdown spins from voting. But I'm not entirely sure what this vote is for. I know on Ryan's weekday show there is a top 5 requested songs countdown but I've never been clear on how those songs are picked or if it is nation wide as opposed to station specific. But that is not related to the AT40 countdown.

The data analysis can go on and on, I mean we can talk about AIs, the time the spins happen, if they've spun the full song or partial, etc, etc, etc... radio and sales : chicken and egg ? I keep seeing that 10Mil AIs magic number should affect sales...except for the UK where it is apparently the other way around and iTunes sales affect radio....
