This is from the September 3, 2009 Rolling Stone Idol Tour Photo Essay.
Haven't posted in a long time but lurk every day. As usual, I'm REALLY late with this comment. But just have to say I love the above photo -- I always thought it was thrilling, and I want to say...iconic. I have close to zero interest in Idol, but I can't help but wonder -- has there EVER been any other photo taken at an AI Live concert with this kind of iconic visual impact? Not only do I seriously doubt it, but if anyone says yes, I DON'T BELIEVE YOU! LOL
Yup, black swan. I don't mean to start a verboten Idol discussion, but it's kind of ridiculous that show is still on the air and searching for a star. They found him, in season 8. They're not gonna find another one like him. Kind of funny, and ridiculous, that they were apparently actively looking for more "theatrics" this year. So obvious that they're trying to recreate a unique phenomenon that can't be duplicated. Whatever!
Really trying to get off the runaway train I've been on for the last 2 years. Trying to reinvent my own life and Adam can't be the end all and be all. Thanks to the universe that I haven't succumbed to getting a twitter account. To me it creates a really weird dynamic between celebrities and their fans -- and a little too much familiarity. Although it's pretty cool that there's such a global conversation going on all the time.
It's been easier to disengage a *little* bit since I feel more or less relegated to the box labelled "delusional cray". Adam and Tommy's "fanservice" (ugh, hate the word) really ruined my enjoyment of seeing Adam with anyone else. Yeah, it's nice that Adam met someone who seems to be a perfect partner in many ways, and I try to feel happy for him but I can't "squee" and don't feel "squishy" in the slightest. I have no doubt that this is a very serious relationship for Adam, and it's entirely possible that it's for life. But as a fan, I don't enjoy anything about it. I still worry that it's going to impact negatively (for me) on Adam's album. Don't want to sound like a curmudgeon, but I don't want a bunch of sappy love songs! I was happier when he talked about the album being somewhat "dark". And yes, he's so entitled to some happiness and fun, but I feel like he's less focused on work because of his boyfriend. We've had a discussion here before about this, and I know that there are valid arguments that contradict what I just said, but I'm just talking about my feelings. (On the other hand, experience does show that Adam usually more than exceeds my expectations. So there's that.)
*late night ramblings below* scroll or not, as you wish...
More confessions of a cray -- I was really sad (yeah, I was apparently way over-invested) when I realized (belatedly, in late January) that Adam and Tommy weren't together. To me, the Adam/Tommy chemistry was off the charts. I remember reading a GNT review that said they had "more chemistry onstage than most couples have in their bedrooms". Completely agree with that. Even now, on stage in Moscow, I agree with a twitter comment I read that said they still sparkle together. I find Tommy weirdly fascinating and kind of poignant for some reason, especially in relation to Adam.
It's pretty clear that Tommy identifies primarily as straight, but he's also said that he finds some guys (including Adam) attractive. As open minded and affectionate as Tommy appears to be, I'd like to believe there was at least some ~exploration~ of the nature of their relationship at some point. They're clearly comfortable with each other physically. And from all indications (photos, interview comments, and actions), Adam had more than a platonic interest in Tommy. I really love the backstage photos from the post-AMA Early Show, where Adam is whispering something in Tommy's ear and giving him 'that look'. And the rehearsal photos from the Much Music awards, Adam's arm around Tommy's shoulder and Tommy's arm around his waist. They really look so good together. But not gonna attempt to post those photos -- too lazy, and it's kinda like beating a dead horse, as is my post. :-[ (I was gonna try to just post a quick comment about the AI tour photo, but I can't stop myself from obsessively rambling on. This is why I don't post more -- it's better for everyone, lol.) Anyway, I do love Adam and Tommy's obvious love for each other, even if it's not the romantic kind.
Adam said he believes in the Kinsey scale. Just saying this for fun, cause I obviously don't really know, but I think Adam is probably a 5.5-6 at one end of the scale, and Tommy is maybe a 1-2. Unlike, say, Monte, or Kris Allen, who are probably close to zero on the scale. Can you imagine either of them doing onstage with Adam what Tommy did? I'll answer that. No, you can't. I would put Sauli at around a 4-5, because I'm pretty sure I read that he dated girls at one point. So far this is sounding pretty silly and shallow and maybe even creepy, but I do find some of the non-creepy discussions about sexual orientation and behavior here to be interesting. I'm straight, but I have three young adult children, and only one of them (my youngest) is straight. The oldest is gay and my middle child is bi. I know from conversatioins with them (particularly with the middle child) that sexuality can be way more fluid than many people assume, although the potential for that fluidity is probably set at a relatively young age.
I admit, Adam and Tommy would have made a seriously odd couple. But I'm seriously disappointed! Which is ridiculous because obviously there is no relevance to my life whatsoever. But that doesn't stop me from not only obsessing but hoping that their relationship was or is or will be more than it now appears. Yeah, I'll probably get over this...eventually...My reaction to Adam's tweet about seeing a movie with Sauli and Tommy was to say 'pics or it didn't happen'. And to joke about a threesome. (I could get behind that. Um, so to speak...
) Oh, and I think, for Adam, Adele's Someone Like You is totally about Tommy. Yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking with it, haha.
p.s. Back on topic...I remember loving the Idolatry interview -- fabulous. And speaking of fabulous -- MOSCOW vids/photos -- YAY!!!!!!!!
oh man i kind of hope I don't end up being the last post on this thread -- making my rambly, cray and non-pc post more obvious. But I spent all this time typing so imma post and run... ;D
