Cassie - The body as an instrument - watched this sound on .... turned off the sound (watched again) & could still understand the music in the dance! ~ I started out fascinated by the dancing, and then, started hearing this excessive use of autotune, and it was all I could attend to for the rest of the vid. Sorry. It just was so irritating and fake. I don't know the music, so, who is singing? Is that Chris Brown? Or Ludacrious? On this - (it was a link from my niece - she's a dancer!) The music is Chris Brown - feat. - Ludacris. I was focusing on the dance - not so much on the music - this time - I normally HEAR before I SEE! though.... ETA ~ If speakers were put face-down on the floor - so that a deaf person could feel that...... and, at the same time watched this video - would the same message come across as the lyrics are conveying!????? (I'm only commenting on the communication aspects - NOT the lyrical content of the song!) Love & Respect you Cassie (listened to your entire interview with Angelina )

In Adam's honor, and Tommy Joe and Sauli, too, of course, some friends and I just went to see BRIDESMAIDS. It was totally hilarious, can see where it would appeal to the juvenile sense of humor when three guys get together. We were 5 females, joined by a 27 year old female sitting next to us who joined our enjoyment of the dissing guys part as her gorgeous and very sweetly tolerant boyfriend sat on the other side of her just shaking his head. That made parts of the movie even more fun. Then we all, the young couple we had never met before we sat down included, went to Coldstone for dessert and a recap. Those are nights when life is fun. Sounds like you had a great time!! Youngest son told me he & his gf saw it and they both laughed so hard. He said she was totally in tears watching. I'm going to see it, for sure!! ONe of the funniest movies ever, went with DH we laughed our pants off. Told everyone I know to go see it.

He makes an excellent point. I want to hear my singers without the enhancements, too. Even the best singers, the best instrumentalists in the world hit occasional bum notes. it is part of being human. It is part of being authentic. It is part of the thrill of watching a live performance. I am not as interested in perfection as the pursuit of it, the commitment to it , the discipline of reaching for it with all you have, with all you are. And the divine joy when all the hard work, the technique, the risks of walking the tight rope, the emotions, the vulnerability, the fierceness, and the artistry all come together for a perfect moment, a perfect phrase, a perfect song. Now I need to go watch "The Competition" again. That's what that movie was all about. The difference between perfection of technique and delivering a moving performance and how the pursuit of perfect technique taken too far removes all emotion and feeling. That movie taught me the difference between an instrumentalist and an artist.

The vibrations that can be felt through the speakers into the floor, are mainly the lowest frequencies which have the most power. (Those also happen to be the frequencies that most deaf people can hear the best..... not as well as us, but they can perceive them at some loudness level.) As far as I can tell, it is not possible to feel the different pitches of notes by differences in vibrations, or to experience what we experience when we hear music. So, the vibrations would mostly give a sense of beat and tempo, not melody and harmony. A very poor substitute. I think a great dance interpretation of the musical and lyrical content and mood would convey the music much better than the vibrations.
