Remember Gaga's male alteregoJoe Calderone. That reminded me of her David Bowie Tribute for some reason. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWKM8_J5NFs with red hair and a beat David Bowie was intellectually a head of his time but he always had Class was never clownish.. He was authentic in all his transcending.

Adele sounded off key. Only one I considrr on Adams lvl imo. But that wasent her best. Poor technique too much from her throat. I had sympathetic voice cracks as she was singing. That was also painful for my ears. (Actually, I hope she's ok. Her technique is so poor I'm afraid she's going to lose her voice.)

I had to calm down before I posted. I always thought the Grammys hated David Bowie and now I know it to be true. That was the worst "tribute" ever. More like a Saturday Night Live sketch. This is not about Adam for me, it is about David Bowie -- an artist who I respected and someone I was lucky to get to work for when I was just starting out in promotion and marketing. ETA: Why did I think this was not an appropriate tribute to David Bowie? Because the most important thing about it was Lady Gaga caricature of David Bowie -- not David Bowie's music, art, fashion and being. I am not watching the Grammys so I can't judge on Gaga's performance, but I am wondering what would happen if Adam took the same approach fronting Queen in Freddie's shoes? Ohh Adam will do 3 songs and do them in medley and the tribute will be AH-MAZING.. But hey.. the positive thing about this, now people will comparing Adam's Let's Dance beautiful performance the night before to Gaga's frenzy caricaturist performance.

I liked the Alabama Shakes performance, but can't stand the Alice Cooper performance.

Gaga's performance was frenetic and chaotic. There was no interpretation of any song. She took voice lessons for six months before she sang "The Sound of Music" at the Academy Awards and I thought maybe she would use this training tonight. It didn't happen.

The music got lost in that frenzy they called a tribute. I felt bad for Niles.. surely he must have realized how bad it was. Maybe that's why he begged Adam to come back for last night's party. A cleanser, a tribute without a caricature. I did feel from watching the Intel commercial this was all House of Gaga. Niles was just there to play.

I only have room in my life for Adam. I wish it wasn't so but that is how I feel. No one impresses me. I am always left wanting something more from a singer/entertainer. I am so spoiled in my old age. I can't wait for Clearwater and TOH. I hope Let's Dance is still on his list. I have seen a lot of great artists over the years. But some days, Adam's voice is like oxygen to me.

I taped the Grammy's so have been fast forwarding to coach up...but I love Alice Cooper et al.... I have never been into Rock...do not know these songs...but this is entertainment...and good musicianship edit: seems we are all having differing opinions on this night of vocal "excellence"! Really, really could not get into that best rock group ...had to fast forward... Gave them a second shot...and fast forwarded again. I had the same feeling with Gaga and actually did a fast forward...but thought I better listen. I agree with whomever posted re the frenetic changes to different songs and characters did not enhance the performance or her vocals...which were not all live.

It is funny to read such diverging reactions from a fandom that all adores the same person....one would expect there to be more agreement. The thing is...David Bowie was outrageous so any production that was not outrageous, would not be true to his spirit...his artistic being. Who else in the music industry today ... other than Gaga....would put herself out there for the abuse she is sure to accrue, for the sake of being outrageous. Even our lovely Adam has given up on being outrageous, for the moment at least. He is wonderful and hugely talented...but not outrageous. How could Gaga do that, being 'genuine' ... and not be over the top. That is who she is and I would challenge anyone to come up with someone more suitable...seriously. I sort of think of it as the difference between presenting a version of the 'record'...which would simply require a good vocal rendering, or an alive performance, which requires so much more when you are talking about someone like Bowie. As always...and especially on this....ymmv lol I agree. I really liked the performance, but would have liked fewer songs with more time to each song better.
