How sad and disturbing to realize that Prince really did likely die of a drug overdose...Percoset that he was addicted to , for pain that his jehovah's witness religion would not let him treat surgically as it would require blood transfusion. An overdose was the reason for the aborted plane flight a week ago and he was seen at a Walgreen's pharmacy the night before he was discovered in the elevator. It seems like fame and fortune is deadly, especially when combined with music. That wonderful picture from someone showing Freddie, Elvis, Michael and Prince is a telling one. Freddie's life and story were quite different though so in this way, he does not really belong with this group...he had the talent and the chutzpah but not the isolated solo str syndrome.
My post is not really OTT though and this is why. Last week we saw a truly spectacular performance from Adam in Manchester. What seemed to push him just that bit further was drinking Tequila on stage. We have seen 'special' performances like this a few times...GNT Amsterdam comes to mind for sure, but i remember another one where he was drinking on stage and it was fiery. A few here cheered the Tequila and suggested he needed that more of that on stage. NO NO NO! It actually bothered me quite a bit when I saw the comments as it is so easy for us to see the fun and want more....and someone so into pleasing his audience thinking that he should do this...this is how performers get into a lifestyle that ultimately takes them down. The time to stop this behaviour is before it ever starts....not after it is an obstacle to a quality life.
I wish an audience would not encourage and praise that sort of thing, to be honest, not out of prudery or 'pearl clutching', but out of caring and concern for the big picture and the man...rather than the show.
Sorry for the rant...I was really side-whacked with the knowledge that Prince was not above it all, as he seemed to be....but just another Shakespearian hero, hoisted on his own petard. sigh

And it's so easy to get into, the alcohol or pain killer thing, especially alcohol...It is so encouraged as part of our culture... Here is a blog from Jehnny Beth from Savages, where she talks about taking up alcohol and then deciding to never drink again before it destroyed her music career: jehnnybeth.tumblr.com/ Go down to 5th April entry.

What? Excuse me, but that is your impression! "What seemed to push him" was an incredible audience! Maybe he always drinks Teguila on stage! Or how about this, maybe he was joking about tequila being in the glass to promote the party mood of the concert! Sorry, but you assuming your perception is fact is a bit too much, for me! ETA: I think great sex, the night before or that morning, put him in a great mood!

This is short but I loved the close up facial expressions. Plus, he laughs. Also, thanks for updating the interview thread, freakydeaky!
