Thanks savvy. Tell hoppers I want a martini lolly! Long time in the future I know, but if Musikfest takes John Moser's advice & books Adam next year I expect all of you to get here! A new venue this year and mucho better than last year. Holds 7500 peeps. Major Party Time!! Oh hoppers - just saw your lollies. So kind. But I don't see a martini one there. Pretty please? Wherever Adam appears in the Philly-Allentown-DE area next tour will see me!! And if it is Musikfest -- I am buying 1,000 tickets just to spite Moser. Well -- maybe 10 tickets -- but I will be there with bells and black kohl liner on -- and my boots!

I know there are a few of us that have an academic interest in fandom, identity, authenticity, etc so I thought I would post this call. If anyone particular is interested dm me. Some ideas of the top of my head may be a semi ethnographic look at: Similarities/differences in Adam fan groups vs other musicians Similarities/differences between Adamtopia and other Adam sites Using Adam fans as examples of typical fan sites Comparing Adam and Gaga on issues of identity and authenticity General discussions of identity and authenticity in contemporary/pop/rock/country musicians Gender in pop music... Gender in fandom The list is endless....if anyone is completely uninterested or this is so OTT as to deserve deleting...scroll or delete as the case may be :-(
CFP - POPULAR MUSIC FANDOM, special issue of Popular Music and Society<http://pop-music-research.blogspot.com/2011/06/cfp-popular-music-fandom-special-issue_11.html> Guest editor, Mark Duffett
Popular Music and Society invites article proposals for a new special issue. Fandom is both a personal expression of emotional conviction and a complex, changing, multi-faceted social phenomenon that now encompasses both online and offline activity.
The study of fandom is a scholarly niche that exists at the intersection of a wide range of interests and connections. It can be contextualized by wider media research (theory by scholars such as Henry Jenkins and Matt Hills; reception analysis; celebrity studies; ethnography; subcultural theory) and by direct research into popular music culture (ethnomusicology; research on listening; live music audiences; studies of music in everyday life).
We invite papers with themes that may include, but are not limited to:
· Fans as musicians / musicians as fans
· The consumer marketplace, perceptions of the music industry
· Collecting, listening, and other fan practices
· Live music, local scenes, and fandom as living culture
· Stereotyping, self-awareness, media representation, lit and fiction
· Fandom and social identities (such as gender, age, disability, race)
· Methodology, research practice, cultural theory
· Histories, critiques of fandom as a response to mass culture
· Taste, cultural capital, and the canon
· Online participatory cultures
· Case studies and ethnographies; personal narratives, memories, and investments
· Stardom and celebrity; identification, reading, and textuality
· Legacies of key representations (e.g., Fred Vermorel and Judy Vermorel's book Starlust)
· Modernity, religion, pathology, and the "cult" analogy
· Differing fandoms / specific music genres
· The fan community: insiders, outsiders, and the "ordinary" audience
· Fan culture and the paradigm of performance
· The uses of fandom: political activism, heritage, and tourism
· Fandom, the family, and / or the life cycle
Send proposals of up to 500 words in the first instance.
Contributions will be peer-reviewed for potential inclusion in the main section of the journal. Polemical papers will also be considered for inclusion in the Forum section. Indicate the name under which you would wish to be published, your professional/academic affiliations, a postal address, and preferred email contact.
Deadline for submission of proposals is October 31, 2011. We would hope to commission articles by December 31, 2011, and deadline for submission of the articles will be July 31, 2012.
Please email proposals to guest editor Mark Duffett at m.duffett@chester.ac.uk.

The Chicago Cubs made an It Gets Better video! I worked there for three summers during college and it's such a magical place. I have so many great memories from this place so this makes me a very proud Cubs fan today. Progress! Jamie, as a fellow Cubs fan, let me just say it's a good thing they are supportive for this cause, because this season they can't play worth shit. I was actually at that Cubs/Yankees game last night, and any improvement that was shown in the last few wins was gone as if aliens had plucked them from the field and returned the original team. This is how Adam would have played had he not dropped out of T-ball.
