A contestant on The Voice (Nakia) sang WWFM tonight. After the performance, one of the coaches, Adam Levine, said, “I’m actually not familiar with that song but you just forced me to like it. …. I pretty sure that, although I haven’t heard that song before, that you probably sang it better than the person who originally sang it.”

Here is the performance and the coaches comments after it was over. Levine’s comment start around 2:24.



Within a few minutes all hell broke loose on Twitter and on Adam fan sites. Here are a few of my fav comments…

But it was fun while it lasted.

Q3 Reveals then Secret Reason for the WWFM Plot

We all know that this was an orchestrated plot on the part of Adam Levine and the other The Voice coaches. Why would they all not remember who sang the hit song WWFM?

Fans speculated that it was a dis of Adam Lambert or because Adam Lambert was critical of Miranda Lambert's Grammy attire in 2010. (One of The Voice coaches, Blake Shelton, is married to Miranda Lambert. And Blake and Adam Levine are friends.) Many more theories were circulated.

No it was not a dis of Adam Lambert, or a;; of the other theories circulating online are wrong.

But I will reveal the reason for the entire drama.

This little "passion play" was a transparent attempt to dis American Idol. What better way to dis Idol than to not remember the biggest hit song from the biggest star Idol has produced in the past 5 years. Just my theory. But it is the only thing that makes sense.

American Idol’s Adam Lambert soothed the angry masses Tuesday after fans began tweeting him about something Adam Levine said on The Voice's semifinals show.

It all started after semifinalist Nakia performed a spirited version of Lambert’s hit, “Whataya Want From Me,” and an impressed Levine said a couple things that some apparently took as insults against Lambert.

“I’m not familiar with that song, but you just forced me to like it,” the Maroon 5 front man tells the performer.

“I’m pretty sure, although I’ve never heard that song before,” he then adds, “That you probably sang it better than the person that sang it originally. So, good job.”

In response to the performance and Levine’s comments, Lambert tweeted, “Yeah Nakia! Saaaang boy!! Great performance. I think Adam might know who I am after this next album. Get ready for me Levine. Hahah”

Apparently, that lighthearted response wasn’t enough for his fans who began tweeting the singer about how angry they were about Levine’s comments.

“But for the record, Im def a Maroon 5 fan,” he writes. “Fans: there is NO reason to be angry. Thanks for being protective but it's all good. ”

Levine can now apparently sleep soundly tonight.

Voting Opportunities

I have changed my recommendation on VH1 Do Something Awards to DO NOT VOTE

On 5.25.11 I recommended voting in this competition. Since then I have done some additional research and testing.

1. Voting for the celebrity online awards is just a way to build awareness for the real awards show.

2, Adam is not nominated for any award. The only way to vote for Adam is as a write-in. It takes much longer to cast a write-in vs. voting for a nominee. There is no limit on voting. So 10 minutes of Adam fan voting time can be wiped out in about 1 minute by someone voting for a nominee.

Poll rating (0=lowest rating, 10=highest rating)

Adam benefit: 3 a win could raise awareness of The Trevor Project.
Fairness: 3 - there is an attempt to limit voting for just one category but it is very easy to work around.
Potential to win: 9 ¨C The voting structure makes a write-in vote very timeconsuming.
Fan value: 2
RECOMMENDATION ¨C vote only if you are willing to work really hard.


About the awards: DoSomething.org and VH1 have partnered to present The Do Something Awards to honor young people's commitment to social change. VH1 is doing a series of online contests to promote this event ¨C they have nominees but also accept write-ins. One of the celebrity categories could help Adam but, more importantly make a difference.
