This was probably already thoroughly discussed last night, but I've only seen it this morning so it is fresh for me Basically, either Levine was lying or he told the truth and made a stupid comment. Either way he comes out a jerk. If he was lying, then he HAS heard WWFM and is just a jerk for dissing another artist for no good reason. THis seems the most likely to me - it is hard to imagine anyone who works in the industry could possibly not have heard the song. My 70 yo mother who lost touch with popular music somewhere in her teens (This is the woman who skipped going to see the Beatles in England just as they were blowing up so she could study - and to this day doesn't really care!) recognizes WWFM. She saw it on TV first - I'm not sure which show, but it made enough impression that she asked me later "was that the guy you like?" She occasionally hears it at the gym or a store and always tells me that "I heard your guy's song again". She does not listen to music radio at all - pretty much just NPR or audiobooks. If she is aware of WWFM, it is inconceivable that someone IN THE INDUSTRY could have totally missed it. Particularly since it was charting at the same time as Maroon 5's Misery, was nominated for a Grammy and was on the Grammy CD with Misery. If he isn't lying, then Levine is mindblowingly ignorant about his job. As a recording artist, one would expect him to need to have a feel for what is current and happening in pop music. To be completely unaware of WWFM, he would have to almost actively avoid radio and listening to current music. As a mentor/judge on the Voice, it is his job to help these new artists and assign songs for them. If he has no idea what is out there in current music, how can he possibly do this well? I can't claim to be a Maroon 5 fan, but I have liked some of their songs and certainly would have made the effort to look at any new music - the proven stupidity of their lead singer may have changed that. If I hear a song I love, I might by a single, but there is no way I will every buy a full album from them.

This is what struck me about the whole situation. How can someone be a judge on a show about popular music and not be aware of Grammy nominated songs? It again reinforces that we we follow a smart savy man with Adam Lambert! I agree that this is a total win for AFL!

(so confused) Levine could have smoothed things over with a classy response a la Adam Lambert....but no. Petty. Petty.Petty. He is a jerk and will remain one in my books. :-/

After watching the whole show, I have a feeling "Ignorant about current Pop music" might be the right guess. There was another song, last night, he didn't know. There have been several songs throughout this season that he said he had never heard before. One was Rascal Flats and now, I don't listen to Country music, but I can pretty much recognize any Rascal Flats song. And, if you think about the 2 songs his artists sang last night, neither one is new. So....... I'm going to go with the conclusion that Levine is just Stoopid<<(Sasha Mallory word!) Yup, in light of Adam's nice tweet about Maroon 5, a short and sweet tweet by Levine could have wrapped it all up nicely. He probably has a huge ego!

@pearl13 Misery peaked at #14 and was #62 on the BB Hot 100 year end chart.
@pearl13 WWFM was #45 on the BB Hot 100 year end chart. Sold better, charted better. Levine is jellus. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/adam-lambert-and-adam-levine-controversy-rumbles-on_1227561Adam Lambert - Adam Lambert And Adam Levine Controversy Rumbles On22 June 2011 16:28 Adam Lambert is still yet to receive an apology from Adam Levine, his co-judge on 'The Voice', after the Maroon 5 frontman appeared to insult one of his songs. Semi-finalist Nakia performed a rendition of Lambert's hit 'Whataya Want From Me' on Tuesday's show, but Levine said he was unfamiliar with the song, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Nakia received positive feedback for his performance, but Levine noted, "I'm not familiar with that song, but you just forced me to like it. I'm pretty sure, although I've never heard that song before, that you probably sang it better than the person that sang it originally. So, good job". Levine's comments lit up Twitter, with angry fans of Lambert attacking the Maroon 5 singer for his apparent ignorance. In response to the wave of tweets, Lambert took to the micro-blogging site himself, saying, "Yeah Nakia! Saaaang boy!! Great performance. I think Adam might know who I am after this next album. Get ready for me Levine. Hahah". Despite the angry reaction to his comments, Levine was unapologetic about the remarks, telling Twitter followers, "I had honestly never heard that song before. I thought that nakia made me like a song that would have otherwise fallen flat. I'm Not sorry".
