Keys, music and the “wisdom of the universe”

I realized that we think Adam has been really quiet about his album. But actually, he has talked a lot about it. And he gave us one big clue, the key.
Keys can mean many things, but the key that Adam had tattooed on his arm has a very specific meaning.
Adam’s skeleton key tattoo is based on an image in Hans Haveron’s painting, "Sepia's Secret." In a June 2011 interview with MamaKath, Hans shared the meaning behind the painting that inspired the tattoo:
In "Sepia's Secret" there is the female "goddess", her cloak outstretched to protect two children, symbols of innocence and counterpoint to the ego. They hold a large key. Above the goddess is the all-seeing eye of the universe, with its keyhole shaped pupil.
The point of the story is that the child holds the key to unlock the wisdom of the universe. Therefore all of us but especially artists of all types must always make sure the child is present. The most difficult part of being an artist is the battle against the ego to let the child prevail so the art can be made. The child is the creator. If the ego gets too big, the child dies and so will your art.
Hans says Adam's choice makes complete sense as he does an amazing job of keeping his ego in check and calling on his child to create. He is a pure spirit who loves helping his friends. As for Lambert's art, despite his success he still doesn't settle for less than his best.

I believe that the key tattoo is a reflection of Adam’s creative mindset. I do not think that his vision is as grand as unlocking the wisdom of the universe, but I am certain that was not a random piece of art he had tattooed on his arm.
And, if we can put it all together, we may be surprised how much we know about his new album. Here are a few comments he made about “TBD”:
January 19, 2011 RuPaul’s Drag Race Red Carpet: “Look for my album this fall, a single probably about late summer. I'm starting to talk to some writers and come up with some ideas and I'll be writing a lot of it myself. It's going to be very pop, very rock, maybe even a little dark."
More from the same event, “I’m pretty dominant.”
He said there would be more focus on the vocals and promised "honest, genuine and personal" lyrics.
Adam said, "I want this to be my album, and dive into it with what I've learned this year, and where I'm at personally with love and relationships. Great music is personal and real. That's what this album will be."
Feb 12, 2011: "I can't reveal much, but I'm crossing my fingers for a fall release date," Lambert revealed to PopEater backstage at the Grammy Social Media Rock Stars Summit. Lambert plans to work with Swedish producer-songwriter Max Martin, who wrote Lambert's hit single 'Whataya Want From Me.' "It's definitely going to happen. He's one of my favorite producers ever."

Adam: I honestly don’t have any idea what it’s going to sound like yet. I know that I want the vocals to be you know, out in the center. I want it to be genuine. I want it to be personal and honest.
Ryan: Will it be less glammy?
Adam: It might be a little less campy this time. Less rhinestones, more leather.

Here are some quick U.S. sales updates for you guys - sorry if I'm rounding out the numbers but I'm dealing with a silly political situation, as relates to freely sharing detailed numbers with consumers. Rather than giving you guys nothing, this is the compromise I've been able to reach for now with the powers that be (don't ask!).

Last January, Nancy Sinatra revealed that she was an Adam fan. I was moving at the time and never paid much attention to her advice to Adam. I stumbled upon it today and wanted to comment on it.

Nancy Sinatra got a lot of fan tweets after she revealed her opinions on Adam. She responded to a few fans on Twitter, including a few clarifications.
