I am the person who asked about the comment here. I only asked out of curiosity and an interest in the music biz in general. No positive or negative thoughts about whatever answers I might get. Not questioning the amount of hard work Adam obviously put into his well deserved success. Curiosity can cause trouble! Apologies if it seemed I was stirring things up. Really only after peace&love&randominformation. I think Q3 was referring to what's going on on other blogs and twitter, I don't think it was directed at anyone here, right ? : : Of course I am assuming that, Q3 ? Didn't mean to make it look as though I was taking any comments personally. I just wanted to offer apologies in general because asking my questions may have caused a bit of confusion here because they seemed to blend into the unpleasant over analysis happening elsewhere (of which I was unaware). Hmmm, was that clear??? Anyway, all is good. peace&love

Jablea, I haven't a clue what was said at MJ's, I bid her a fond adieu after the AMA's ;D
And when my twitter feed gets loaded with discussion from there it's always time for me to remove myself

Congratulations to Adam on his financial success. I am happy to be one of those who contributed to his numbers. As had been said by others before, it is good to have black and white numbers to refer to about Adam's success in the music industry. He has done good. My hope is that he builds on this and that next year will be even better. Also, I think the fan base should take a moment to absorb this acheivement. Adam has really worked for every bit of financial success that he has acheived. We as the fandom have supported his ginormous talent by voting, attending concerts, buying his music, and making sure that he had the opportunity to present his talent to the world. Well done Adam. Well done Adam fanbase. The world deserves to hear this amazingly talented artist. Salute to all the Adam fans around the world and to Adam. You guys are awesome. Adam is awesome. Bravo, READON!!!I am aligned with your way of thinking. Such a positive post! Going to bed happy. Thank you!!

Twitter is so frustrating sometimes -- really headshaking -- unless you just look at your own tweetdeck. There are clearly some people out there who did not want to see Adam have any success at all. But they are having to twist up into pretzels to make this $6 million not mean anything. Everything from claims that RCA paid fortune to print it to Adam's management lied to Adam funded his own tour and so he made more money than the other Idols did. Why do I ever look there????

[grin] Being the dork I am, I just did a back-of-the-envelope calculation on how much it would cost to fund a 6-month tour based solely on payroll and general expenses. I calculated out $1.8M in expenses, and I bet that's low. Who in their right mind pays that out of thier personal pocket? That's what sponsors are for. ETA: just because: ;D

Pretty much bet that the tour grossed $15 million, Adam got 50%-55% $7 to $8 million and paid everyone from Monte to the bus driver. That would leave him with about $5 million dollars. Add in other stuff and you get $6 million. Regarding sponsors, the tour was not sponsored but the venues were owned by or associated with promoters who took care of all the expenses related to the show -- insurance to security to ticket sales to local fees and taxes. There is more to a tour than the band and bus. Adam probably got some support from RCA and Sony, and he MIGHT have used some of his royalties to fund sets and costumes -- but I bet he did not put up any money to fund the tour -- he just used tour receipts to pay his share of expense. Nothing unusual about that.

Do you think he will go with one of the big sponsors like LiveNation or AEG for the next tour. I understand they take a considerable chunk and push the ticket prices up.

Do you think he will go with one of the big sponsors like LiveNation or AEG for the next tour. I understand they take a considerable chunk and push the ticket prices up. LiveNation and AEG are concert promoters not sponsors and they were both involved in GNT for some specific shows. Some artists work with one or the other for the entire tour. LiveNation was spun off from Clear Channel the radio station owner and does other entertainment management including Jay-Z's recordings. Tour sponsors are companies like Pepsi, Steve Madden and Coors Brewing. Here is a copy that builds tours for sponsors: www.trackentertainment.com/tour_sponsorship.htmlI hope Adam has sponsors for his next tour. I have done a number of sponsorship programs for brands -- and the artists make a ton of money. For the tours I work with, they #1 source of income to the artist was the sponsors. Example: Virgin Mobile USA was the sponsor of Lady Gaga's US Monster Ball Tour. Rhianna had Nivea. Madonna had Blackberry, Apple, AOL, Savant, and many other brand sponsors. Blackberry also sponsored U2's 2009 Tour mystifying fans about why they would do this. But many artist tour without sponsors. Neil Young prob will never be able to get a tour sponsor because he mocked the trend in his song that was famously banned by MTV from 1988: But interestingly -- this music video is not on MTV.com.

I had to get off twitter, the discussion was annoying me. I had the impression they are certain that Adam funded his own tour because there was no sponsor logos etc attached to the tour, like coke and pop tarts for Idol. ETA it's these kind of discussions that keep me away from Idol blogs :-/ This is why we can't have nice things. :-/
