I wrote this the day after my first ever Adam concert!
ONE YEAR AGO TODAY!!! Little did I know then that I'd end up seeing 5 concerts and meeting him 3 times!!! (apologies for the long post....I had a lot to say!!) ;D
SAN FRANCISCO (July 23 2010)
My first Adam concert started with a pre-party organized by a local fan, Eric. (@mynameiseric on twitter) He did a fantastic job with countless glowsticks, posters, badges, and raffle prizes. I scored a Frontier magazine featuring Adam – Love that cover!! It was so awesome to meet other crazed Adam fans!!
Me, Eric and my friend's 9yr old daughter who came to concert with me,
Later at the theatre we got to our seats just as Allison started. We were quite far away and off to the side – unfortunately the hanging speakers were blocking about a quarter of the screen, so I knew I wouldn’t get the full effect of the projected images, but I wasn’t gonna complain!!! I was finally there, about to see Adam!!!!
Allison’s style of music is not my favourite, but she has an awesome voice. I enjoyed Orianthi a lot more than I expected to! She sounded good and of course amazing guitar playing.
Okay from here on, I will do my best to convey the Adam part of the concert – I just hope I can find the words! He was so unbelievable! Every note was pitch perfect, flawless. I have heard many fans say that he sounds 10x better live than on the CD or on youtube – now I know they were right!
When he first appeared on stage I expected to feel emotional, and sure enough the tears welled up! Even though our seats were far away, you could still see every expression, every nuance on his beautiful face! It helped too, that I’d brought binoculars, so I could get a close up when I wanted to!
Voodoo, DTRH, ROF – I had only watched the very first concert on u-stream so hadn’t really seen much of these songs. He just owned that stage – I kept going from jumping up and down in excitement to standing completely still, just awestruck that this was actually happening and his voice was real and live and beyond description!
Fever! Had my binoculars ready for any Adommy action…. Sure enough a bit of a lick!
Sleepwalker – one of my favourites… and wow, just wow!!!
WWFM – Got those glowsticks ready! I was torn between watching the expression on his face through the binoculars and watching to see the glowstick effect – managed I think to do both- there were so many glowsticks!!! : ) Must have looked so incredible from his perspective!
Appropriate I think at this point to talk about the audience. Never have I been to a concert with this sort of vibe – the love & adoration shown towards him was incredible - so hard to describe, but may get some idea from watching videos.
I didn’t record anything and my photos are fairly crappy – not a very good zoom on my camera!
Soaked – I am not even going to try to describe this – suffice to say there were tears!! I have tears welling up again just thinking about it – quite simply I have never, ever heard anything like it…ever!! No exaggeration. Nuff said!
Aftermath – focused on Adam and Monte -again, spectacular vocals – can’t describe – have to be heard to be believed!
Then the party started with SFW, Strut and Music Again. All fantastic! The boy can move!!! All the dancers were awesome – so sharp and slick – loved it!!
IIHY – band intros and dancers –all good, but nothing I hadn't seen on you-tube from previous concerts. But I hadn’t seen him sing the entire song, so was surprised at how he changed it up (loved it!) and got us all to join in! Such a joyous and happy vibe!!
Mad World – awesome! usually prefer slower MW but this was brilliant!
WWL -Rock version!! Even tho it wasn’t the slow, seductive acoustic version, he was still seductive, sexy, glorious……and those vocals!!!! OMFG!!!!!!! Again there are NO words to describe it!!! My heart was pounding, I was shaking…..Adamgasms galore!!!
Then it was over. I was stunned….walked out shaking my head in disbelief at what I had just witnessed. Can’t believe I was ever worried about being disappointed that my ultra-high expectations might not be met. Well, they were and above and beyond. So glad I get to see him two more times – just wish it was a lot more.
After the show, my young friend’s Dad picked her up which left me to do some serious stalking…. I met up again with some other fans (including a fellow kiwi) and we noticed a crowd by the bus. At first it seemed Adam wasn’t there- just members of his band, but we hung around and then Adam came out! Being so short, I couldn’t get near him, but managed a glimpse between the sea of heads. He didn’t stay long but signed autographs for a few lucky people.
We walked around the other side of the bus and met Sasha! She is so lovely – had a very brief chat and got a photo. (horrible pic of me tho so not posting, lol!) I asked her to tell Adam that he had fans from NZ who travelled to see him. She said she would, but it was all a bit rushed – she was being hurried onto the bus. As she got on the bus, a curtain was pulled back and there was Adam!!! So I did get a good, but brief look at him a bit closer (sadly, I wasn’t quick enough for a photo!)
We waved as the bus left and started walking back to our hotels, then we saw a group across the road and realized that Monte, and Tommy, were there! We all rushed across the road before they could get away! They were both so awesome - they hung around for quite a while – we had a good chat, photos and hugs!! My other NZ friend and I of course told them we had travelled from NZ to see them (Adam). I asked Tommy if they were coming to NZ – he said he honestly didn’t know……
Two of my new Glambert friends from Malaysia were the ones who made this fan video of IIHY:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGXteTBoLWUMonte told them that they AND Adam had seen it and loved it!!! That brought on a flood of tears – so awesomely happy for them! What a thrill for them!
I have heard fans say how they are always so friendly and generous with their time, however it was quite something to experience it for myself! I told Monte that I thought it was amazing they were so generous and how we appreciate it, and he replied that if it wasn’t for us, they wouldn’t be doing what they do! True, but was awesome to hear him say that! Had photos taken with both of them – Tommy really snuggles into you – he is sooo adorable!!!
It was a real thrill to meet them – obviously not as good as meeting Adam himself of course, but next best thing!
Oh and my friend’s 9 year old daughter had previously said that Adam was her 2nd fave singer after Lady Gaga (I took her to that concert in NZ in March) but after the show she said “my new official favourite singer is now Adam Lambert!” I could tell she absolutely loved the show –singing & dancing along! :D
