Adam does not have a 360 degree deal with Sony Music Entertainment/RCA. Adam has close to a 360 degree deal with 19 -- it covers record deal, concerts, appearances, merchandising, etc.
RCA has all recorded music, videos, ringtones, all recorded music sales, music licensing and radio. They also funded the international promo tour to promote FYE in other markets.
Adam has a record contract with 19R (19 Recordings). 19R licensed Adam's music to Sony/RCA. If Sony/RCA drops Adam, he will still have a contract with 19R.
19 Entertainment has a contract with Sony Music Entertainment for AI Seasons 5 - 9. We do not know the terms of that contract but Sony pays 19R who pays part of the advance to the artists and part to Simon Cowell and keeps some for themselves. This agreement ended in AI9.
The new contract for Idol is between 19E and UMG but I am certain that 19R continues to get a percentage of the record contract license advance.
Since CKX is being taken private, it will be almost impossible to figure out what is going on between UMG and 19. We only know about the Sony-19 deal because of the Simon Cowell-Simon Fuller/19 lawsuit over X-Factor.

Gah - clear as mud. The intricacies of this astonishes me. I thought Adam SIGNED with RCA. Or is it that he actually signed "quasi-jointly" with RCA/19R? Who actually holds the contract? i.e. Was it the secretary from RCA or the secretary of 19R who stuffed the original in her file cabinet? ETA: I guess the reason for my confusion is figuring out the entity of 19 fits into everything. In most things I read about record contracts, you sign with a label. Period. Is this "shoehorning" of another corporate mechanism something that JUST happens to Idol (and other reality shows) or is it something that does indeed happen with other label signings, but is relatively invisible? ETA2: Aaaaaaand to go sorta back to the original question: Is 19 getting a cut of the T-shirt sales?

Does Adam get a bigger cut as his star continues to rise? Did 19 put the money upfront for the domestic leg of Glamnation?

Sony/RCA gets exclusive licensing of Adam's music to record and distribute worldwide. That's how I'm interpreting this.

As Adam sells more, he earns more. And 19M's share of what Adam makes is pretty standard for a management company.
Merchandise --- I have no idea what the split is but RCA does not have a share of merchandise. Both 19M and Adam get royalties, plus the company who is distributing it, plus when sold at a concert the promoter and venue owner sometimes get a piece of the sale.....but the artist usually gets the largest share of the merchandise profits.
Q: What percentage goes to 19/RCA and Adam? I have no idea. A: We have never seen the contract between 19 and Sony.
Q: Does Adam get a bigger cut as his star continues to rise? A: The more he sells, the royalties he receives and the bigger his advance for the next album. So Adam certainly got a bigger advance for Adam #2 than his debut.
Q: Did 19 put the money upfront for the domestic leg of Glamnation? A: As far as I can determine, no. 19 Entertainment and all of its divisions are middlemen and take a percentage of their artists earnings. This is what management companies always do.
From what I can piece together, GNT was funded with some support from Sony, some guarantees for appearances (festivals, casino shows), and support from promoters (Live Nation, AEG and some independent promoters picked up parts of this tour.)
19M put it together which is not a simple task.
The concert promoter handles the advertising and usually financing of concerts -- they arrange for the venues and on-site labor, and then handle advertising, marketing and often ticket sales.

That is correct. 19 Recordings is just shell company that allows 19 to get a share of the artists royalties since Idol is performing the A&R function and finding the artists. Adam is signed to 19 Recordings. Adam also has a contract with RCA that looks like any other recording contact except that it incorporates a license from 19 Recordings. For Idol artists from AI1 - AI9, there is also an underlying deal between 19 Entertainment and Simon Cowell's SYCO records. This was a way for 19E to pay Simon for his participating in Idol and for AI5-AI9 to compensate Simon for keeping X-Factor out of the US. That deal is now over, and Simon is bringing X-Factor to the States. Note: If you look at the back of many Idol records, you will see the SYCO logo on them.

Grrrrr.... >:( Ok, that officially irks me. The thought that Simon Cowell is potentially getting a cut of Adam's records when he's essentially ignored Adam completely since the AI8 finale raises my hackles. I'm scared to find my CD cases for AL! and GlamNation, b/c if I see a SYCO logo on either of THOSE, I'm gonna start cussing furiously.
