Just popping in to say -- SusieFierce nailed it. RCA is supposed to be Sony's rock label and they have been under criticism for 1. Not having any big Rock acts, and 2. Not properly capturing sales from their rock catalog. Rock (including catalog sales) is the #1 purchased genre in the world (and US). In addition, UMG has beaten Sony in Urban and R&B in sales and licensing revenue. Regarding Adam -- he will be fine. He has a ton of support from RCA. The most interesting comment in the interview seems to have been missed -- they are going to retail an active roster of 60-70 artists. The active roster of the labels that will make the new RCA is much larger. It was a specific number so I expect it is directionally correct. Will be interesting to see what happens to some of the more marginal artists. (Adam is easily in their top 50 artists. No problem for him.) Yes, I thought that number rather interesting. But since I didn't know what their current roster is (all genres combined) and definitely don't know what it will be once Jive is absorbed, etc. I didn't know if it was more or less than what they currently have. Did seem like a lot though. Sorry -- he said 70-80.... We still do not know who will stay with RCA and who will go -- because they will be moving some Jive artists. But 70 is not a large roster. From the Billboard interview: "RCA. We still have the Jive, J and Arista imprints and they are not going to go away. But we will be focusing on the RCA brand." "We are still working on our newly combined roster. But when we get done, it will have about 70-80 acts, which is a good, manageable number. It will include a lot of superstars like Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, R. Kelly, Ke$ha, Daughtry, Christina [Aguilera], Kelly Clarkson, Chris Brown and Justin Timberlake". The RCA imprint has more than 80 acts -- then add in Jive, J and Arista -- even eliminating the inactive acts from the rosters, I think some artist look like they will be released. But -- back to the lack of Adam mention -- Edge had another big message -- they are focused on transitioning from the record business to the music business; they will be moving more aggressively to capture publishing revenue and to sign 360 deals. Idol deals are the exact opposite -- 19E has the 360 deal, not Sony. So I think he really wanted to downplay any reference to these low Sony profit deals. He couldn't leave off Kelly and Daughtry but no need to mention any other Idols. So back to where Susiefierce started this -- Edge was working to position RCA within the music industry and he was focused on saying we have superstars, we are growing, we will capture more profits 360 deals, we will work in a range of genres, and we will own rock music like we used to. Mentioning Adam does not help that message at all.

On Adam's FaceBook -- there is rarely news there, Adam doesn't have anything to do with his public facebook page and fans know it, so no reason to friend Adam on FB.
But last time I pulled the numbers -- which was 2009, there were over 100K FB pages with Adam Lambert listed as a favorite musician. Painful analysis to do so I have no plan to repeat -- but I am fairly confident that the secret Adam fan is not representative of the vast majority of his fans. I think it is like the "older" fans -- yes, we exist but we are not "typical".
Finally, research into the fan process indicates that the online world really have very little to do with people's real fan lives. In some cases, people are avid fans in both the digital and terresterial worlds but do not connect the two. In some cases, people are avid fans only in the digital world but that appears to be quite rare.

Oh one other thing about web design, Kesha's RCA site www.keshasparty.com/us/home is probably one of the ugliest I've seen (myspace circa a long and uncool time ago). So I feel for all the RCA artists. Also, as the new era ramps up it might be worth thinking about how this site might be more welcoming visually to new fans? It's organization is very clear and the daily threads are easy to navigate, but design-wise, I think there is a little room for improvement? Though I completely understand and appreciate the time commitment that this forum takes. I'd just be willing to volunteer to try to make an option or two for a new banner at the top of the site if that was something people were interested in exploring - and if it was something that quick page loading and the proboards code allowed for. (I'm sure there are also members with better design skills than me too.)

About the twitter vs. facebook followers discrepancy, I noticed during the "O" Awards voting, that Adam seemed to be getting a fraction of the facebook votes of the other artists, including Tokio Hotel and 30 seconds to Mars. Also compared to other pop acts his facebook numbers might be a little low? I never quite know who to compare him too, what other pop artist has the same tier album and single sales/radio play record? I have two theories: 1) his facebook didn't seem to get updated that often in the past and he's an active twitter user, so most fans naturally migrated to twitter 2) for whatever reason, a lot of his fans are "in the closet" about fanning him in their real life. If you look at his very active twitter followers, most aren't using their real names. Facebook is predominantly people listed under their real names (aliases tend to be a lot rarer there) and I've heard a lot of die hard fans say they don't post about him there. I myself don't reveal the extent of my fanning of course, but do have him as an artist I like, along with many others. The facebook likes could come from new fans checking him out, and/or from more fans practicing "no more hiding" after the BTM as they either see their friends and family reacting to it positively or their FB friends "liking" him as well. ("Likes" on facebook seem to spread much more virally than twitter followers as they update on your timeline which your friends see). Craazyforadam, I totally agree with you about Adam Official. I do think that even using the clunky backend/existing program a visual redesign could make it a lot more user friendly and make the forums a lot easier to navigate. If you check out Christina A's site (better forum readability) and Pinks (better visual design) you can see that there are options for improvement. If the forums had a Daily post string I think that would seriously help new users (and old fans who have stayed away) be more comfortable there. Currently I get scared away simply by the titles of the threads people have created. I wish Adam or his new management or RCA would just hire some extremely bright web design intern with a specialization in social media to do a user survey and make some desperately needed updates in design and usability. I have friends who get paid just to handle the social media aspect of a company, completely separate from their website. And yeah, I also think the AFL fan site was a cookie cutter design modded by people with no prior experience and no real connection to Adam or his management to provide timely info or feedback. On the other hand, I think this is probably the case with a ton of non-indy musical artists (the indies handle this stuff themselves, and therefore tend to do a better job). ITA with all of this, RabbitRabbit. I think the Facebook thing is an interesting dynamic and it really seems to be having a resurgence all of a sudden. (Or maybe it's that I've been a little more active, I've been getting more friend request. LOL, all the beyotches in HS asking to friend me ) As I've said before, I've kept my account rather sterile because of professional ties, etc. I also have not wanted to deal with snarky comments, but I'm pretty much over that now and yes, I did feel like a hypocrite with the "no more hiding" aspect. I can totally relate to the website issue. Companies pay tons of money to build and launch and three years later, they're obsolete. I have been a member of AO since Day One and posted twice, I think. It's just a cumbersome, fragmented, visually annoying site. I gave the feedback for ALF of having no central, chronological thread (ala this one). The fragmented aspect does not foster community or continuity at all.

I don't know just found it amusing to think about.. Anyone think he would go.. if she does invite him? I am kinda hoping he would be busy.. LOL..
