"Actually, the first time I ever heard of fan fic was from J.K. Rowling herself, who (IIRC), seemed to treat it as a very matter-of-fact part of the Harry Potter fandom. She was well aware of the broad ranges of HP fic and she didn't seem to have any issue with it except when the fantasies began to infringe upon the actual themes of the book. For instance, I guess there were many fans who would ask her if Hermione and Malfoy would get together, which she expressly denounced saying, "That is never going to happen; they are enemies in a war ... that's just fan fic wishful thinking." (Paraphrasing from memory.)
If they were impinging on the artists' intellectual rights, I'm sure something would have been done about it years ago. Perhaps, like YouTube, brands consider it part of an engaged audience and if it goes to keep fans interested until the next book or next season. And is it much different than the video compilations where Adam may not be thrilled with how he's portrayed? Just a thought. "Well, that's interesting about the Star Trek franchise and Rowling not minding fan fic, maybe even embracing it. I guess that's the bottom line - do they think there is harm done? Evidently, they think not, not that much, or it balances out somehow. I suppose fan fic could be looked at as basically fantasizing, and then sharing it - when I put it that way to myself, I think, what's the problem? (So long as it's not WAY weird/dark, etc.) But I'm still thinking about it. Hmm . . . Adam compilation vids. Interesting question/point - that, to me, at least, IS comprised of actually-Adam clips. (I believe my favorite it "Straight to Number 1," which is all Adommy moments . . . ) Lines, boundaries - where should they be drawn? I think, it comes down to "do no harm"? Once again, I think SCROLL is the answer to all questions, just like CHANGE THE CHANNEL is when it's TV. I scroll any time computer discussions or numbers come up, don't care, not my thing. I actually learned a lot last night about fan fic and ended up calling an old friend this morning who has made millions by writing romance novels in assembly line form. She started writing for Harlequin, I think, right out of college. They literally send you a format, almost a paint by number, and you go with it. I have no idea how many she has done over the last 18 or 20 years, but enough to buy a house on the ocean in CA. She does not see fan fic as any different from what she does except she has guidelines for the ratings and gets paid money to do it. Her feeling is that it is just entertainment with a little more pizazz, her word, and is geared to a certain celebrity. She laughed when i told her it came up on an Adam website. Who knew she was a fan??? In fact she totally understands there being a demand for it because he pushes things to a PG-13 level and his mature fans want it a little more R. That made me laugh. She insisted it is no different than watching Mark Wahlburg, another of her favorites, play a nice guy in one film then a porn actor or rock star in another. I have no opinion on the whole thing since I am a live and let live and what's for me isn't necessarily for you kind of person. As far as it somehow being disrespectful to Adam, I don't know. I think each star has his own feelings about it. I think Adam would laugh and shake his head thinking people should get a life, but what do I know? And with a real life and this website, how can anyone possibly find time for fan fic? Maybe I just have to budget my time better.

Another point that might be helpful when stanning Adam in general is that when you follow Google down the rabbit hole you are going to be stumbling into totally foreign cultures and sub-cultures crossing boundaries of all kinds, language, religion, geographic, etc. Remember that before you jump in and start commenting. Take the time to try to understand the communities you are encountering. Blogs and websites are like tribes, they have their own individual rules and conventions and histories and when you stumble into them you will not know these things without doing your own investigating. Also when outsiders show up here and jump in with criticism remember that they don't know us and don't have a proper frame of reference to interpret what we are saying. The unwritten rule of thumb on the internet from the beginning of bulletin boards is that you should read an entire thread before commenting at the very least and that on a new board you should read as much of the history as you can before commenting. If you can't or won't do that then at least refrain from making snap judgements and ask questions to determine if you assessment of something is correct. These common courtesies were well established before the internet took off like a rocket but since then many who have entered this world have not had the opportunity to be informed of those courtesies.
This is one of the reasons that the internet has come to be regarded as a fairly lawless place. In the early days newbies used to get mentored by older users and taught the unwritten rules but eventually the growth out paced the ability of older users to keep pace and many of the newcomers reacted badly to being told how to behave. Internet message boards used to be very insular communities without much crossover but the world wide web changed that.
As an example I remember when I first joined the official U2 forum my daughter was absolutely appalled that people had pictures and gifs and animations in their signature lines that were three to five inches tall and regularly posted pictures and gifs in any and all threads. All of the communities she was a part of had strict limits on sizes of signature lines and separate threads were kept for photos, videos and gifs. This was a courtesy that allowed users with dial up or metered internet usage or poor connection to enjoy the communities without having to load pages with bandwidth intensive content unless they wanted too. Just in one thread I showed her she said every one of those posts would have gotten you banned for discourtesy. What was perfectly acceptable and even encourage on this particular U2 site would have gotten you kicked off of some of the sites she was a member of.
Just some things for people to keep in mind if you are going to explore every mention of Adam.

There is a rumor in Germany that there may be a live single of Sleepwalker released to radio with the DVD release. Anyone hear this or see anything about it? Could be just a fan dreaming! But IMO live SW >>>>> album SW. And the fact that SW was not on Acoustic Live makes me think that they held it back for the DVD. I have not read or heard anything about this rumour. They just started with playing SW album version on our radio stations. Today was the first time I heard it playing in my hometown station. It is played on a nearly daily basis, three times today. I will check and see if I get some information, but it makes not much sense to me. Doesn't make much sense to me either. But a 4:25 long single with 1 minute of instrumental breaks makes no sense for an Adam Lambert single either. Still want a 3.30 radio edit of Sleepwalker without the long lead in and with no guitar break. That would at least has a shot of fitting into Top 40 radio in North America -- and I am looking a Canada because the US will be denied this single! >:(
