"Actually, the first time I ever heard of fan fic was from J.K. Rowling herself, who (IIRC), seemed to treat it as a very matter-of-fact part of the Harry Potter fandom. She was well aware of the broad ranges of HP fic and she didn't seem to have any issue with it except when the fantasies began to infringe upon the actual themes of the book. For instance, I guess there were many fans who would ask her if Hermione and Malfoy would get together, which she expressly denounced saying, "That is never going to happen; they are enemies in a war ... that's just fan fic wishful thinking." (Paraphrasing from memory.)
If they were impinging on the artists' intellectual rights, I'm sure something would have been done about it years ago. Perhaps, like YouTube, brands consider it part of an engaged audience and if it goes to keep fans interested until the next book or next season. And is it much different than the video compilations where Adam may not be thrilled with how he's portrayed? Just a thought. "Well, that's interesting about the Star Trek franchise and Rowling not minding fan fic, maybe even embracing it. I guess that's the bottom line - do they think there is harm done? Evidently, they think not, not that much, or it balances out somehow. I suppose fan fic could be looked at as basically fantasizing, and then sharing it - when I put it that way to myself, I think, what's the problem? (So long as it's not WAY weird/dark, etc.) But I'm still thinking about it. Hmm . . . Adam compilation vids. Interesting question/point - that, to me, at least, IS comprised of actually-Adam clips. (I believe my favorite it "Straight to Number 1," which is all Adommy moments . . . ) Lines, boundaries - where should they be drawn? I think, it comes down to "do no harm"? Once again, I think SCROLL is the answer to all questions, just like CHANGE THE CHANNEL is when it's TV. I scroll any time computer discussions or numbers come up, don't care, not my thing. I actually learned a lot last night about fan fic and ended up calling an old friend this morning who has made millions by writing romance novels in assembly line form. She started writing for Harlequin, I think, right out of college. They literally send you a format, almost a paint by number, and you go with it. I have no idea how many she has done over the last 18 or 20 years, but enough to buy a house on the ocean in CA. She does not see fan fic as any different from what she does except she has guidelines for the ratings and gets paid money to do it. Her feeling is that it is just entertainment with a little more pizazz, her word, and is geared to a certain celebrity. She laughed when i told her it came up on an Adam website. Who knew she was a fan??? In fact she totally understands there being a demand for it because he pushes things to a PG-13 level and his mature fans want it a little more R. That made me laugh. She insisted it is no different than watching Mark Wahlburg, another of her favorites, play a nice guy in one film then a porn actor or rock star in another. I have no opinion on the whole thing since I am a live and let live and what's for me isn't necessarily for you kind of person. As far as it somehow being disrespectful to Adam, I don't know. I think each star has his own feelings about it. I think Adam would laugh and shake his head thinking people should get a life, but what do I know? And with a real life and this website, how can anyone possibly find time for fan fic? Maybe I just have to budget my time better. I love your post! Reminds me of my grandma who I miss so much - she was an avid Harlequin fanatic. I only read fanfic once and thought it was stupid (wrong one or what I don't know) - but I do see why it has sprung up (pun?) around Adam - he is a sexual being. I mean a lot of what we talk about here (and we are the most mature of the Adam places I think) is about his sexuality and sexy good looks. So not surprising that some fans/writers want to take that and expound......... Sorry I missed the conversation yesterday - sounds like it was interesting - I know so little about fanfic - I can barely read all the pages here.......... |

I know Adam said he probably wouldn't perform on Idol this year because he doesn't have a single to promote, but do you think that maybe because of the release of SW in Europe, etc. that he might possibly perform it on Idol ? I'd love the GN version. If not, perhaps the dancey/pop Aftermath. Just wishful thinking, I suppose.

I'm in Northern CA - willing to host a DVD viewing on March 26. I can seat 5 on couch plus other chairs for a total of 10ish. TV is 52" but even better I have a decent sound system with 6 speakers! It is about an hour north of SF though. Works for me! :D :D |

I think that song shows off his voice more than any other. People have talked about him doing the new version of "Aftermath" to promote the Trevor project, but I'm not sure Idol would want to promote a charity other than Idol Gives Back. |

Well, what's happening on Twitter is, that over the last few days a contingent of hardcore Adommy shippers is kind of having a bit of a fanwar with Adam/Sauli fans. There's a handful of seriously delusional, boundary-free people who are tweeting some very ugly things to Tommy, and others who are trying to "comfort" him over his "abandonment" by Adam. The trending for Tommy yesterday was created by the latter group.
It's kind of nuts, and makes me deeply grateful that Sauli doesn't have a Twitter account!

I totally ship this menu  Double emphasis on the mangoes (Seinfeld anyone?) but it has long been one of my more romantic foods because the flavor and texture are so perfect, they're decadent. Also lobster eaten with the fingers – also very sensual ... perhaps strawberries and chocolate as well. BRB, ordering me an insta-boyfriend and booking a flight ... I feel a fan fic coming on !! See what I mean? So easy to get sucked into the whirlpool. HAHA! I was about to post something similar. When we analyze every picture and make assumptions about their relationship based on how they look at each other, when we theorize how this whole thing might play out, when we voice our wishes for them, we are SHIPPING. LOL! When we fantasize about what they might be eating and what they might be doing and we write down those fantasies, we are writing FANFICTION. Just saying... |
