If you are asking me ...our sour cream is not a liquid..therefore I guess more thick...and used Lipton's as well. I aslo used more meat than suggested but still the same other ingredients in. I actually just got back from skating and 4 heated up ..for a snack.

Now a question - what is our sour cream like..? Is it liquid or thicker? Can't believe I'll write about sour cream, but here we go! Sauli's recipe calls for what is kermaviili in Finnish. It has less fat than regular sour cream in the US. In Finland sour cream is called hapankerma or creme fraiche, a different product than kermaviili. Kermaviili does not exist in the US (unfortunately, I love to use it in lighter salad dressings and dips). I would maybe try to use light sour cream instead of kermaviili in the US. It's not exactly the same taste, but similar. Full fat sour cream is thicker than Finnish kermaviili. Lighter sour cream is somewhat more liquid-y, probably due to lower fat content. There is also non-fat sour cream in the US, but that tastes pretty bad. And "non-fat" and "cream" should not be in the same sentence anyway, IMO. I found a good link that describes kermaviili and the differences between it and sour cream: www.dlc.fi/~marian1/gourmet/17_10.htm

I was pretty sure kermaviili is not exactly the same as sour cream in US but unfortunately dictionaries give it that name.

Thanks Maria . I was pretty sure kermaviili is not exactly the same as sour cream in US but unfortunately dictionaries give it that name. Yes, that is the translation in the dictionaries since it's the closest term. I was wondering how the local sour cream works in those meatballs, but apparently just fine, which is what matters. I may need to give the recipe a try myself next weekend. :-)

Earlier when you were discussing comments on Sauli's blog...I read them everyday and of the ones in English, they seem 98% positive. The only 'negative' things I saw were regarding him getting a job and some about quitting smoking (which I think was trying to be helpful, not negative). Most are saying how much they love him etc. Of course, I have no idea what the comments in Finnish say......Zinnia, are they more negative in general? I would think he would be getting even more love from his own country. I thought the blog was monitored, but don't know if really mean/nasty comments are removed or not.....I am glad for you and Mia that he is writing less often and shorter in length, but am happy for anything we get

Thanks for the help on the meatballs! Can't wait to try them and bring myself closer to Finland and our boys.

Scotia - the comments are mostly positive in general. It's a bit funny of those wanting him to get a job - they don't understand he can't work in USA for anything else but to a Finnish company which he is doing already. LOL - I really don't mind of him writing short blogs especially when RL for me is busy :D. But of course, it's more fun for everyone when he writes more. Glitztripper - good luck with the meatballs
