But Sam did not “Come Out” until Stay With Me was a hit. And according to his OG fans, really toned it down until recently. Some think he purposely made himself bland, which was NOT the way he was before hitting it big.

I didn't realize that Sam was out from the start of his career, according to this article.. Sam was out in high school -- and long before he was signed to a recording contract. Sam was out to the people, who knew him personally. Not to the public. And he was certainly not „proud and loud“. He played the game until he was successful and famous. He didn’t pretend to be hetero though.

Adam liked this IG from Sam yesterday: http://instagr.am/p/BirH4snAF5l I guess if Sam was out and proud like this from the start of his career his success might have been different. He hid who he was to the public. That's not the out and proud he got credit for in that article. I must admit I hadn't read the full piece when I posted it here. ETA: I just saw this picture has over 1 million likes and is his highest liked picture from all his recent posts. It's good that such a thing is appreciated now. A lot different from Adam loosing followers on IG when he posted some out and proud pictures at the start of 2017 though.

So Queen was never able to perform IWIA live? Wow. I never realized that. That song is now an exquisite showpiece for QAL. That incredible "Call and Response" that Adam and Brian do just before they kick into the song like a stick of dynamite is a perfect combination. It really packs a punch. It's one of the highlights of the show, IMO. Performing that song live is just one more example of how Adam's voice and presence with Queen is so amazing. No other singer could deliver that song like Adam can. His voice is no powerful and it delivers the message of the song so perfectly. Some things were just meant to be. There is a long list of Queen songs they never performed live by Queen (with Freddie) -- some because they were released after the band stopped performing live, others because they were early Queen songs and not appropriate for live performances. Here is a list that I threw together quickly -- so I could have missed some. Footnotes are based on Queenzone posts. The bolded song are the ones I really want to hear live. X = performed my QAL = not many. All Dead All Dead Breakthru Coming Soon Cool Cat Dancer Dead on Time Dear Friends Don't lose Your Head Don't Try Suicide Drowse Fight from the Inside Fun It Funny How Love Is Gimme the Prize Good Company I Want It All - X 161 times!! Who Needs you You and I You Don't Fool Me Plus almost the entire Flash Gordon soundtrack.* Long Away was played in rehearsals but for some reason they dropped it from the setlist, and it got never played on stage. Maybe because they thought it wouldn't work. * Sleeping on the Sidewalk and Las Palabras de Amor were played only once, so they're not on the list. **Spike played keyboard solos of the Machines. I don't count it. **** Of greater interest to me are the unreleased Queen-Bowie songs from the Under Pressure recording session. Brian has confirmed there was more. www.theguardian.com/music/2017/jul/13/david-bowie-recorded-songs-with-queen-that-never-got-releasedEven it the recording session recordings are too "raw" to release, I wonder if QAL could do something with the songs? Sould I Was Born To Live You also be on this list? I thought the 1st time it was played live was when QAL did it in Japan?

Sould I Was Born To Live You also be on this list? I thought the 1st time it was played live was when QAL did it in Japan? Yes, it wasn’t played by Queen. They were not able to play the last three albums „The Miracle“ 1988, „Innuendo“ 1991 and „Made in Heaven“ 1995 live, because they had stopped touring in 1986 due to Freddie’s illness. There are even more than on that list. There is a bunch of songs, that were singles, but were never played live. And I would so love to hear „ Innuendo“. they did it once at Freddie’s tribute concert, with Robert Plant on vocals. But it was such a mess, that Brian seems not to be willing to tackle that one again. Actually Queen was/is a greatest hits band since the early eighties (at least). They stuck mostly to the hits, with a few songs on each tour from the then current album and some covers. So there are a lot of songs on their 15 studio albums, that are great, but unknown. 😉 Besides: Even the relatively unknown „It’s late“ and „Spread your wings“ were singles, meaning better known, than some other gems. And I would also love to hear Adam smash „The March of the black Queen“ ( was often played in a medley by Queen in the 70s by the way) or the calm and beautiful „Nevermore“! Or „The Invisible Man“ or „White Queen“. I could go on and on. 😂 But I‘m sure, they will simply keep their setlist and play „Killer Queen“. (Yes, there are a lot of „Queens“. 🤘).

Sould I Was Born To Love You also be on this list? I thought the 1st time it was played live was when QAL did it in Japan? It was a Freddie solo song until after his death when it was reworked as a Queen song. So it does not quite fit the list. But then it was also performed by Queen+Paul Rodgers (according to a Google search, but the live video of QPR seems to be on a Japanese site and does not play, even though I AM in Japan right now, so I could be wrong ), so QAL wouldn't be the first to perform it live either.

It’s on their last album „Made in Heaven“ (released 1995). But you’re also right, that IWBTLY was originally a solo-song by Freddie and was first released in the early/mid eighties. So it wasn’t a Queen-song, when Freddie was still alive. It was first played live by Queen+Paul Rodgers in 2005 (according to setlist.fm, where it is listed as a Freddie-cover).

IN the golf shirt interview, Adam was asked who could stand in for him with Queen were he to suddenly get sick. After some thought he suggested Lady Gaga and Pink. But, he couldn't name a single male singer. I can't either. Not performance wise, not charisma wise, and absolutely not vocally. Amen to that. There are some power-house female vocalists out there currently, but I can't think a male vocalist who is anywhere near Adam's level. Sure, there are some good male singers out there, but nobody who has his absolute power and control and sheer richness. He really stands apart. Adam was wise to mention Gaga and Pink as his potential subs. But fear not, Adam is rarely unable to perform. Out of all the QAL shows, he only missed one due to bronchitis. He's really a healthy guy and he takes care of his voice.

He was "out" but he wasn't out to everyone. Adam was also "out" but not to everyone, but Adam had a lot of photos, etc., of his pre-Idol life that showed his very open gay life. Apparently Sam did not. Things sure did work out for him.
