I think the AMA's did hurt Adam in the US. Even if it got him attention in other countries, the US acceptance would have been great for his career and also would have given him more worldwide attention if successful. We have to remember, that when he was on Idol, he got more attention outside the US than all the other Idols. But Adam played it right with the recovery. For those who wanted him to go more OTT, they may have enjoyed seeing that but he wanted a career, even if others just wanted entertainment. The climate was not right in the US for him to just do anything even if it would have worked in other counties. He wanted a good career in his own country as well. But I hate the AMA's more for the dancers and choreography, instead of highlighting what a great talent Adam was. He could have rocked that stage without them. His voice is extraordinary and his stage presence is great. None of that showed up in that performance and that was what people tuned in to see after hearing so much about him.
Didn't care for Cuckoo and but hated it on the tour. Johnnie always seemed to try to take it over as he did with Fever. I loved Fever so much more on the Glamnation tour. But I doubt the song Cuckoo would have earned him any awards or big recognition. And I also think Adam's writing is really good on many of his songs. So I would not dismiss it because a few seemed to be lacking substance. Sometimes a fun song is what it is. But it would have been nice if some of his better written songs would have been released as singles.
Also tired of them pretending they did not know Adam was gay while on Idol. The sh** was everywhere non-stop and the reason given by many as to why he lost. Why would they think it could cost him the title if most people did not know? Sure you get a few who claim they did not but it was hard to miss all the hoopla about it then and thru most of his career. TBH, I'm a little sad that it has come back to that but I think they need to get it out there that he was not hiding. Some are now trying to claim that as they give others credit for being bold. Of course you can be bolder now because people like Adam were standing alone and took a lot of the fire. I want to see him get more of the benefits, after HIS Bold stand, for his music now.
