Great point! Now that you mentioned this it does make sense for Queen to ignore the Grammys from the βhistoricalβ perspective ...but, like you, I also thought theyβll acknowledge the award somehow for the movie and LV gig sake... I've lost respect over the years watching who wins. It's not about excellence in music it's about popularity and sales. To me that's backwards. There are plenty of awards that acknowledge those accomplishments. I think what did it for me for award shows was when "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp" won an Oscar! Queen's music was so intricate, complex and diverse they were hard to categorize but the Grammy voters should have figured it out! What did it for me was when "We are Never Ever Getting Back Together" was nominated for Grammy Record of the Year. I'm not a Taylor Swift fan but there are other songs of hers that I can tolerate. But a song that has the word "ever" sung 3-4 times in succession? The song sounds so juvenile. These huge pop stars can release anything, radio will play the songs, they will become big hits, and get Grammy nominations.

That is why it makes me crazy when someone says Adam will get more play on US radio and nominations if he writes that undeniable big hit. Really? Do people think all of these songs that get massive play and become big hits are because they are so great and so well written? Some maybe but not all. His work is just as good or better than some and they would be hits if they got the same massive radio play. But the Grammy's go to pretty much the same acts. The non-favorites who have a chance are the ones who go into the alt or rock categories and get out of the way of the standard and predictable pop and rap darlings. So not surprised that Queen was a no show. Perhaps if they had given them the honor on the actual Grammy Awards show, the they way the EMA did, it would have been different story and seemed more like an honor..

I don't know how to bring over instagram stories, but Joe posted an instagram story with Adam's instagram story below and added the caption, "This guy is one of the nicest people I know".

Since we're talking DNCE and also silly songs that become hits, DNCE had a really big hit with the very catchy song "Cake by the Ocean."

Adam's songs are every bit as good as many of the biggest hits. Always have been. But once you get yourself into the "hit pipeline," your music will be played regardless of how good the song is. Once you're accepted as a top recording star, you can ride that wave for quite a while with hit after hit. Doesn't matter if you can sing really well. Most can, but still, it doesn't always matter. The most inarticulate mumblers sometimes get the biggest hits. You're also right about other artists (like Adam) whose best chance of getting a Grammy or other award is to get into a different category, like alt or rock, etc. Truth is, winning a Grammy IS a big deal and gives you lot of cred. It's the height of irony that Adam, with that one-in-a-billion voice, has only a Grammy nom but not a win. And yet, so many singers with far less talent keep on winning the awards year and year. I know this sounds like sour grapes, and I guess it is. But good grief. It's so frustrating.
