That photo of Ground Zero is breathtaking. I've been thinking about all our NYC peeps today and in particular my beautiful friend Nica BIG to you all. I found this at AWoP, posted by laynie and it made me burst out crying. It's too beautiful not to share Please watch this commercial Budweiser did after 9/11. They only aired it once so as not to benefit financially from it - they just wanted to acknowledge the tragic event ......I saw this when it aired on tv. Very moving This was the first I've seen this. Heartfelt. It was a tricky time right after the 9/11 tragedy, not just for the commercial industry, but for entertainment, sports, etc in general. Many contemplated if it was too soon to carry on as usual.

Nica your memory serves you well, no we didn't go to actual Ground Zero, but we did get within a block or so of it. Remember, that was the day that we all trooped over to Staten Island to ninja in advance have a look around the St. George theatre in preparation for your GNT concert there. The Manager gave us a fabulous guided tour around that beautiful theatre. It was awesome. Then we came back and you gave us a guided tour of downtown and the financial district. It was fascinating to see all the things I have heard or read about with my own eyes. I think we collectively decided to not go to GZ because it deserved it's own visit out of respect. Sadly, with all the careening around we did following Mr. Adam F. Lambert all round the country : , I never did make it back there. Next time - K!

At a dinner party tonight, we discussed Sounds of Silence and that PBS announced during the ceremonies today that Bridge Over Troubled Water was listed on the program instead. So we talked about whether the lyrics were really appropriate for this occasion, especially the last two verses (seem a bit anti-big city, materialism, etc.). Also, lamented that we don't often get lyrics that this anymore. Maybe Adam will come through with something (OOL seemed to overwhelm many fans).
Sounds of Silence
Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools", said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence
