When I saw who was being honoured, I was a bit surprised that Adam would be performing. And my first thought was actually that Phillip Glass was just as likely to ask Adam Lambert, a supreme vocalist, to sing one of his songs, than Cher was - who, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, has no other connection to Adam than the fact that Adam chose to rework one of her songs and sing a brief snippet of it on a television show 10 years ago... I mean, how do we even know it's about Cher?
From what I understand of the Kennedy Center Honours, the honorees themselves often get to pick who is going to give a speech or sing in tribute, they invite their friends and colleagues. I remember watching Ellen Degeneres' honours for comedy: she had asked for people like Jane Lynch and Sean Hayes, her friends and fellow comedians, to be the ones performing. I recall that one because it was hilarious and moving, but of course, I don't know if it's always the case that the honorees choose who gets to perform.
Seeing that Chad Michaels will be doing something in tribute to Cher makes me think that Cher herself invited Chad to do that - I know she loves Chad Michaels' work and he is considered as THE Cher impersonator. He'll probably be lypsinching to a medley of her songs, I expect. Of course, Cher could have asked for Adam too, but I really don't see the connection... Do they know each other in real life, as friends? Have they ever worked together? I mean, I'm sure Adam loves her, who doesn't, but still, what am I missing?
Anyway, those are just my thoughts, carry on.

I don't know how they honor a composer but Phillip Glass is honored on Sunday. Any possibilities here? 2018 Kennedy Center Honors: Hamilton, Cher, Reba McEntire, Phillip Glass, Wayne Shorter Glass is one of the most popular and prolific composers alive. His output is veritably Bach-like in its range and quantity. To some people, Glass is “Koyaanisqatsi,” the pulsing, mind-bending film in which Glass’s music and Godfrey Reggio’s images play equal parts. To some, he’s “Einstein on the Beach,” the breakout avant-garde opera he created with director Robert Wilson in 1976. Some would name the symphonies he wrote based on the albums David Bowie recorded in Berlin in the late 1970s, “Heroes” and “Low.” (He’s currently working on a symphony — his 12th — based on Bowie’s third Berlin album, “Lodger.”)www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/2018-kennedy-center-honors-hamilton-cher-reba-mcentire-phillip-glass-wayne-shorter/2018/11/30/a7d8ecee-f4b5-11e8-bc79-68604ed88993_story.html?utm_term=.187b83b9ae10I assume they will at least mention Koyaanisqatsi. It is his most famous composition. But can't see that on Network TV. His newest work will be premiered by the LA Phil - Jan 10th the Los Angeles Philharmonic presents the world premiere of Philip Glass’ Symphony No. 12, based on David Bowie’s “Lodger” and a completion of the set of symphonies based on the Berlin Trilogy. But they could do something else from the Berlin Trilogy.
But many honorees are directors, actors, etc. who have no music. They used film clips for George Lucas. Mel Brook got this award in 2009 - wonder how they did that one?
I am clearly not good at guessing but am still on the Adam will be there for Cher. He has no connection to any of the other honorees - unless he secretly loves Hamilton.

Thanks! Didn't know there had to be a connection. I was just guessing about his availability. Miranda Lambert did Desperado to honor the Eagels a few years ago. It was fantastic but I didn't realize she was chosen because she had a connection to them. But if Adam has a connection to Cher (I didn't know he did) it makes sense. Will be happy to see him perform.

I do not believe that Adam knows Cher but he does know Chaz Bono. So yes, they are personally connected through her son.
Someone else here probably knows much more about this than me.
I also recall that Adam has said he is a Cher fan.
I was given ticket to see Cher recently -- and was blown away by her show. I was never really a fan and I am now sorry for being so close minded about her. She truly deserves an Adam performance to honor her.

First, those Honors Week Tribute concerts appear to have nothing to do with the show itself, non-televised, free to anyone. No reason to assume Adam would even consider doing one.
Second - there are tributes, live, during the show - for example I'm posting below the Bruno Mars tribute to Sting in 2014. Live at the center as part of the show - and 1 of 4 performances just for Sting. It would be easy for Adam to be one of four for Cher (and he can work the timeline of England today, New York on Sunday), doubtful he'll close the show like Bruno did though.
