BoRhap was announced to be the most succesfull movie of the Netherlands in 2018 this week. Beating all the blockbusters and everything. It is close to 9.5 million euro's gross now and was again #1 in the cinema's over the past week doing over 1 million in a week. The weekend numbers are not known yet.
I'll probably go watch the movie again somewhere in between Christmas and New Years. My parents and my sister want to see it as well. So we'll do a little family treat. Flying back to the Netherlands on Saturday for a short vacation.

They seem to be reported 4 ways which is why every post talks about which way they are saying. However what "reported" means I'm sure is up for grabs. They'd probably be a lot easy to compare if they reported ticket #s instead of $s. A) highest real dollars 1) US only 2) Worldwide B) highest inflation adjusted dollars 3) US only 4) WorldwideStraight outa Compton was only a contender in #1 BoRhap is now #1 in 1 & 2 and is flirting with being #1 in 3 & 4 But that's just bio pics - now it's getting close to passing just for fun movies with LGBTQ themes LOL! Yeah I get there are different ways of reporting things and they stated their measurement in the article. But it is pretty funny that after weeks of claiming that Straight Outta Compton was the highest grossing music biopic domestically, the narrative has changed once BR overtook them and received some big award nominations. I was just wondering if the normal way of reporting in the press was based on adjusted inflation.

They only came up with the adjusted for inflation after BoRhap overtook SOC on Gross without adjustment. It seems they still can't handle the fact that this movie is hugely succesfull. If you look at the daily gross for SOC compared to BoRhap you can see that BoRhap is doing way more now per day than SOC was doing back then on the same day after the release. For Sunday (day 45) it's 1.1 mil agains 146k. So it's catching up pretty quickly. I also see it's catching back up with A Star Is Born again. After the first two weeks BoRhap had a higher gross if you looked at the same amount of weeks after the release, but ASIB was doing better after that. The gap is now about 5 million, but BoRhap seems to have caught up this weekend with the gross ASIB was doing in the same week. We'll see how things end up. It's the only way to compare the popularity of movies from the 1930's when tickets were often only $0.10 to movies from the 1980's for example. Otherwise a movie like "Gone with the Wind" (1930) would not appear on a top grossing movie list. www.filmsite.org/boxoffice3.html
I think it is now being reported about BoRhap because it has a shot at not just being the absolute top ..... but also being the top on the inflation adjusted lists. In the end, it is going to break a lot of records.

BR is doing great and the critics are angry because the fans buying tickets and the award nominations have proved them wrong, lol. I know this was the first time I had heard about CMD even being in the mix. But they can't dismiss or hide that BR is moving toward 200M domestically and over 600M worldwide. A success for the Movie and Brian and Roger. Period. My guess is most of the press reporting will not worry about adjusted inflation.

They are well past the 600M mark. Latest numbers are 635M, and this film has the right content to be a contender right through the Christmas season.
And depending how the award season goes for the film, it has a chance to get some fresh wind blowing its way there too.
Yes, the critics are not happy with what is happening. Oh well, it fits with Queen's history to not be liked by critics. Lol
