Adam would not have needed to invest his own money to get top song writers and producers to work with him. He certainly had a large enough budget to work with anyone he wanted.
When you read that a major label artist is investing their money in promotion, video, concert, etc., that usually refers to an artist foregoing future royalties to fund something that the label does not want to fund and that is beyond the contract. So if Adam wanted to do a $2 million video for his single, RCA would probably say fine as long as we take it entirely out of your royalties. Most artist do not even consider doing this.
My BET is that Adam negotiated for creative and production control, and the associated EP credit, based on convincing RCA that he could deliver a more successful (commercially salable) album if he got creative control. I would be shocked if he invested in the album.
But at the end of the day, the artist pays for everything out of their sales. And in a full circle way -- fans pay for all of it, including the salaries of the "suits".

Imagining that Adam was having to pony up his own money to pay for these collabs just didn't sound right to me. It made far more sense that RCA had all of this factored into his overall budget.

Q3, you may have missed a question I had way back at the beginning of the thread. I am curious if you think DMG negotiated this for Adam or if you think this would have happened even if 19 was still management.

So if I read this right, being the EP means for Adam:
Having a wad of cash called budget in his pocket A pen called decision making authority in his hand A sledge hammer purely for acoustic purposes A bunch of differently timed clocks ticking, kind of like in my avi A noose around his neck because he likes jewelry
And the whole thing is called creative control, did I get that right?
Just kidding, totally thrilled for him. Obviously, as he says he has artistic control, to what extent he plays all the other roles that are required to make the whole thing happen is not quite so important to me. On just his second go round on the roll-out of a major label major album, he probably does not have all the insights or just simply not the time to keep all the parts moving, so I am sure there is some co-producing going on no matter how it is formally or contractually organized.
But there are a few important parts: All these silly question about AI artist being puppets on strings, etc. ==> that EP title should silence that nonsense.
Anyone in the biz trying to ignore this album will be potentially talking to him directly. And Adam is working hard to give them less and less reason to ignore the next album.
ie. I was thinking about that female PD at KISS-FM in LA who everybody kept talking about with FYE. Did she not play Adam because she does not like him or is Adam's music not right for her rhythmic leaning market? Debate was going on here at Atop a lot. Well now he is working with Roco and Pharrell. She won't be able to ignore Adam's music anymore, I presume.
Adam knows he has the NY, PHL market cornered. He needs to get the LA radio market and then the Florida and Texas AT40 music market. If he gets that, Chicago and anything else in between will follow suit. Smart cookie.
And no, this is not a sell out to radio, because this could be damn good forward looking new sounding music too. And that is exiting. It is just having the vision to see opportunity within what you are handed, rather than seeing obstacles. And that is leadership and having a vision and so Adam deserves the title he now was given. I am very excited for him.
Oh an regarding PR: Oliver should be designing wallpaper instead of fashion if he is so afraid of people (male or female), does not want to touch anybody and wants his own self to disappear, why does he try to design fashion. His color and pattern choices are much more suited for wallpaper anyways, imo. And walls don't have boobs or fat or whatever else he was whining about. What a combination of personal issues while being so rude and abrasive at the same time. Grrrr that guy gave me the ibby jibbies.
Adam of course was great, made it look easy again, just amazing. I thought his critiques were spot-on, especially once you hear the more lengthy versions posted online.
In general, I think one of the problems on this show was the 30 minute planning time. If the task is so different to what these designers are used to, it would make sense to give them a bit more time to think through style, color schemes, cuts, coordinate with each other, etc... i.e. Anja who normally is pretty good just could not wrap her head around the challenge in the time given, then got stupid fabric and then could not recover from there. She is normally quite creative. So this just does not make sense to me. That is totally different from the time management issues Oliver had, those were his own problem. But I think this assignment would have let to a more meaningful image for the band, if the ingoing time constraint would not have been so rigid. This is not the first assignment where I thought that on this show, but this was certainly a good example. The show was much better on Bravo, somehow the assignments were not quite so crazy out there and the designers could do more with them. Also the candidate selection seems to have dropped off. Where are the days of Christian Siriano?
Love all the gorgeous pics we are getting.
And Happy B'day Nattygirl and Skrealitycheck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not know but I think that Adam did this before he switch management. He was certainly in complete control of the album creation and production process in May. So my guess is that he negotiated it with RCA early in 2012 before he started working on the album.
Maybe he will talk a bit more about this.

www.afterelton.com/tv/appointment-viewing/09-23-2011Appointment Viewing: More Fall Premieres Including "Supernatural," "Fringe," "Terra Nova," "Happy Endings," and more! Posted by Lyle Masaki on September 23, 2011 "There's one more series debuting Friday as the Hub offers its version of the singing contest with Majors & Minors. The reality series follows 12 kids who dream of music careers and who will get the chance to be mentored by successful recording artists, including Adam Lambert. It doesn't sound like my kind of show, but it's pretty groundbreaking to have an out gay man have a prominent role on a children's network show." Is it groundbreaking? Is this the first time an openly gay performer has been on a children's show? Pee Wee Herman, anyone? I don't know if he is gay, but he sure poured it on thick, IMO. Pee Wee Herman is a character created by comedic actor Paul Ruebens. The character is childlike and effeminate but I see nothing in the Wiki pages referencing Gay. Neither the character nor the actor were considered gay but there was a scandal when Ruebens was arrested for indecent exposure in an adult theater but again no reference to gay.
