Was Adam the first Idol that had his sexuality become such a major talking point while he was competing on the show? He was not the first or last gay contestant but I don't remember it becoming such a big focal point for anyone else. It must have been unsettling to him at the time. Tho he had lived openly as a gay man for many years, he came on the show to have his talent recognized but he wasn't hiding anything. It was not like Ada, many years later, when they were trying to make being a drag queen the main selling point. But with Adam, Idol really was trying to highlight and showcase his major and different level of talent. But I discovered Adam because Fox news and CNN were constantly talking about his sexuality so I tuned in to see what was happening. My first thought was I hope this guy is good cause they are not helping his chances by focusing so much on his sexuality. Then I discovered this handsome and super talented young man with a big voice and showmanship and I was hooked. 10 years later and I'm still hooked. Adam's talent and charisma have carried him a long way (even with many barriers) and he is still going strong. A few thoughts about this. Adam was one of the few gay people on TV who was not there as a caricature or a comic relief person. He was serious about showing his talent to viewers. He wasn't overtly pushing his sexuality. Once his sexuality became evident to the public, it wasn't Adam who kept bringing up the subject. It was the media. He was asked about it all the time and answered openly and honestly. He took it all with his natural good nature and sense of humor. I remember him saying, "That's all everybody wanted to talk about." It was kind of a novelty. He was one of the few public gay people to talk about his sexuality so openly. The vast majority did not. His talent and personality have served him well, along with his honesty. His sexuality certainly isn't the only thing that defines him. I think he is breaking through more barriers each year. His sexuality is less of an issue in his career. That makes a lot of sense. They were making Adam out to be a gay stereotype on CNN with the help of a guest who was an overweight, effeminate gay man leading the ridicule. They were having a grand old time making fun of the thought of anyone even thinking Adam had a chance to win. I felt bad for him. So I was stunned when I tuned in and saw something completely different. My first thought was WTF were they going on about. This man is serious, gorgeous, talented and with the voice of an angel. Gay or straight or anything in between, he was confident and at the top of his game. He was NOT going to be so easily dismissed by anyone.

10 years go by in a blink of an eye, doesn't it? I was a bit late getting into American Idol Season 8. It took me til Black or White to really understand the strange feeling I had for this guy and this voice.
I sat in the stands at Rose Quarter in Portland for that first AI show not knowing what to expect. It was a lightning bolt when Adam came on.
Thank you, Q3, for this place.

twitter.com/lyndseyparker/status/1087095271429947392Lÿndsey Parker @lyndseyparker In honor of #10YearsOfAdamLambert, I have tracked down & complied all SIXTEEN interviews I've done with @adamlambert, from long sitdowns to shorter junket events. The only video I CAN'T find is the FIRST one from the Idol tour rehearsals -- surely one of you Glamberts has that? Anyway, binge-watch/listen here: Check the link: www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sqpk2m

youtu.be/plYAc5pT-PYHas this actually been posted yet? What we are essentially celebrating today lol I came in 2015. Adam has inspired me in so many ways which I've talked about before. I truly feel he's influenced the path of my life. His name kept crossing my radar until i searched him out and put all the different pieces of puzzle together of various things that I've seen and heard of him. I've met wonderful people through him and am greatful for everything he's brought to my life.
