Mika, I am not familiar with this actor, but looked him up. Help me out here. If he's been living openly gay already, then the new publicity is that he has made a public announcement about it? Yes? I'm glad I don't have to think about making such an announcement. However, I'm middle-aged, never been married, and no kids. So I figure there are some people who wonder if I'm gay--not. Sometimes I feel like making an announcement that I'm hetero. That would be odd, huh? ;D ;D Holst - Yes, you have it exactly right. If one followed him at all (I met him in conjunction w/charity event a few yrs ago), he's been completely open about his life in recent years, but never made a media statement. (I was actually surprised and saddened to learn from his interview that during Firefly he didn't discuss it openly w/cast (they were a very close group) because he was concerned it would make things weird on set w/the crew b/c of the kind of 'talk' that goes on. I agree it is ridic that gay performers have to make a public statement to be considered fully out. But Sean describes well why it's a relief. One of the big differences is that he can now do publicity for whatever he's in much more easily since they won't have to dance around the fact that he has a family. Another couple of actors in similar position (kids, partner) sharply limit their interviews & promo appearances b/c it's a little hard in those situations to avoid mentioning the kids - then the issue becomes whether you're raising them alone or what... (Just saw Adam's twitrant - and he's on a roll! Go feisty Adam! This reminds me of the Slezak interview when they talked about the kissing pics which Fox had blurred and Adam asked 'Is that indecent?' And about them being deemed embarrassing to Mr. Lambert: 'I wasn't embarrassed; maybe Bill (O'Reilly) was embarrassed.' IMO Adam's been a brilliant agent for change from the beginning. Done and done.) Mika, thanks for your response. I guess that makes perfect sense about interviews etc.
