How did Adam Manage to Overcome? ...or something similar....
rather than saying 'Why is he not more popular / successful? ' right when he is coming off of probably his most glamorous, prestigious, and successful couple of weeks of his life since his time on AI.
Adam is running in this world with a twenty pound backpack, when others carry none, yet he is still standing, and not just at the back of the pack, like many of those that are so often listed and compared here, like the KAs or MMs of this world. Let them make their careers, and Adam make his, and let's celebrate what he is doing, because there is so much to celebrate.
Adam does not win the 100-meter-dash, but he is running in the long-haul races and winning more and more of them. Let's stop the comparison to the Shawn Mendez and J. Bieber and whoever else is running without that backpack on their back, they are in a different race, imo. Adam decided to shoulder the backpack that he was given, and running at his own speed, handing out goodies from his backpack, like this week the 'Feel Something' video, to tons of people who feel spoken to by the music he makes, who have experienced numbness or are in the middle of it, and need something to lift them up. Asking why Adam is not bigger than he is, is imo asking why he does not do well in the 100 meter dash. The question just does not make sense, and just brings us fans or anyone reading this down, when Adam us trying to lift us up. Let's celebrate instead of looking with envy to others who are racing under different conditions.
And let's not forget:
These recent viewer numbers under the recent youtube video (both audio and live session of FS and the Believe and the Oscar one), are not coming just from us here, they are coming from tons and tons of others, who are liking the video and sending it to their friends. They also come from media outlets that continue to talk about Adam, praise him, make noise on his behalf. Yes, Adam's praise does not reach to every TV station everywhere, it is right now, selective, in the hands of those few that do see Adam for what he brings to the table as an artist. But their numbers are growing. So let's climb on board and celebrate the long distance races that Adam is winning, instead of complaining that he does not win the dash.
Off to the races now. Bye Sorry. Had to be said.
What a great post thank you!!!! I too am a little tired of the oh woe is Adam feel sometimes. He has said in his open letter that he has found his power and is happy in his life and career. Can we celebrate it instead of always finding a down side? Long even careers are far better than superstardom and then a crash. I would gladly see Adam rule the world but not at the cost of a long career that he feels satisfied with. I think he would still be comprising and giving up his artistic vision if he did what was needed to break into the main stream accepted radio genre, and though we don’t really know him I don’t believe he would want that. I don’t read YT comments, I TRY to ignore anything to do with MM as I am sick of hearing his name and I just aim to bask in the glory of all the amazing things we have seen Adam doing these past months and in the year ahead!!!!! Just my opinion, no offense intended, just having a shit time in my life and want to enjoy happy positive thoughts and Adam always does that for me! Everyone have an amazing weekend.

truebijoux Oh no, we didn't forget. Here are some of the jewellery looks from the #Oscars that we're still obsessing over. The women AND men turned it out this year. @charlizeafrica in Bulgari; @pharrell in a Jacob & Co. necklace, and one of his own-design in collaboration with Chanel; #HannahBeachler wore gold Wakanda inspired jewelry; @mileycyrus in Bulgari (we love a good snake); and @adamlambert is rocking that ear jewellery. Glamour at its finest ✨ * * * * #oscars #oscars2019 #academyawards #academyawards2019 #redcarpet #jewellery #mensfashion #style #jewelry #fashion #bulgari #chanel #wakanda #blackpanther #snake #adamlambert #earcuff #diamonds #glamour #celeb #celebritystyle #toppicks #hollywood #love http://instagr.am/p/Bug_9W7l4na

Radio play or the lack thereof ? Ok, so it is not only a backpack, there are hurdles on his path too. Lack of radio play is a real hurdle, but I also have to say that Adam has not played a straightforward radio oriented game. In my mind, good for him, otherwise, he would have felt disenfranchised even sooner, but the reality is, he did not focus on making a top radio friendly album. He tried to rather present himself, or describe musically where he was at in his life, or presented a story he wanted to tell. He tried hitting the current sound somewhat, by teaming up with the top popular songwriters, using dub step when that was the fad of the day, etc, but he did not totally do it. His albums were always eclectic, and therefore confusing to those who tend to look for simple answers to the question of who he as an artist is, and he had lots of non-hooky songs, or lyrics that were either complicated, or a tad questionable. This is not a critique, this is just stating that radio alone does not own that question of radio play for Adam in its totality, even though I do think they own a gate-keeping portion of the issue, as Sam Smith is finding out these days, btw. And that issue will imo only go away, if the public starts shaming radio into behaving differently, because it becomes a public discussion. US radio is guided by FCC standards, and if you read their statues, they absolutely have a non-discrimination paragraph in there, even though they go on to specify and detail that this means gender, race, religion, etc, and conveniently leave orientation out of the picture, in that listing. I don't hear a discussion in the American public, to challenge them for their lack of fulfillment here, in the way how other governmental agencies have been called to task.
Imo, it is necessary to tackle the question why labels have such a hard time signing or supporting gay artists, by starting to step on FCC' and the radio conglamorate owner's toes, not the labels. The major labels have their hands tied behind their backs, because they cannot admit the 'payola' -game or whatever it is called, now that payola supposedly does not exist. They cannot say that this is how they get radio to play their artists, and therefore they cannot put their cards on the table. This needs to come from the American public and take on radio as a medium. And we are not there yet. The fact that streaming now starts to control so much more of the game, is helpful, but if the major streaming playlists start getting controlled more and more by exactly the same gangs that are controlling radio, we will not be able to win that battle. This discussion is needed, for the sake of quality music, as well as for political, and social reasons.
I think that America will need to have that public debate about its radio, and apparently the country is not ready for that yet. Adam alone is not going to win this one, even though massive streaming would be able to get him probably in the door at some radio stations, at least. We shall see how this all plays out. Ice walls can sometimes crack in the most unusual places. It will happen eventually. But if you had told me a year ago, that Adam would stand on that Oscar stage, applauded by hundreds of top celebrities, who all know who he is, I would have not believed it for one minute. Strange things happen and they happen without radio.
When one door closes, another opens up. For Adam, that door was Queen. And it has led to lots of opportunities that billboard charts do not count or register. Yet, they exist.
Radio play is an obstacle for Adam, for sure. But it is not the only way for him to succeed. That is evident already now.
And the fact that Adam found ways to uphold a career with integrity in spite of the hurdles, in spite of the backpack, and in spite of the people who think that writing nasty comments makes them look cool or something, the fact that Adam is overcoming all that, and still stands tall, and is winning his race, the race that he defined, not the one that others want to force on him, that is something we should all celebrate along with him.

Perfect. Thank you for this. And in the spirit of "positivity", wouldn't a title like the one you suggested be an even greater incentive for casual fans to jump on board? (little note in regards to members who feel a different reaction to the original "underrated" article, I think every opinion is valid and deserves to be heard)
