I have been thinking about the new Adam album. Today, I decided to engage in a fan-tasy. What if my phone rang and it turned out to be Peter Edge CEO of RCA Records? “Q3, I have some exciting news for you. Are your sitting down?”

“Yes," I replied, working really, really hard to remain cool, calm and collected. Mr. Edge continued, “We have decided to do something unusual for Adam Lambert’s highly anticipated new album and want a fan to decide what product we should create for release in the Sony store. And we’ve selected you.” [Well I did say it was a fan-tasy!!!!]

I was speechless. [Yes, it is possible!!]

“There is one catch,” Peter Edge said. [Why is there always a catch? I thought to myself, do I need to sell my soul to the devil? I seriously considered the possibility. ] “The catch is that you will get to put together a proposal but you will need to present it to Adam and get his buy-in. If Adam doesn’t agree, we won’t proceed.”

[The "catch" is that I have to do WHAT????]

“I need to think about this a moment,” I replied. [My mind raced. BREATHE!!! Was this a joke? Was there a new version of “Candid Camera” in the works? WTF should I do?? BREATHE, speak slowly, work at sounding like a pro. I’m sure this is a joke but I’ll just play along. I let out a loud scream in my head.] I spoke slowly, worked to keep my voice calm, “Well, OK. Why not? It sounds like it could be fun. And I am a fan.” [That sounded pretty good – I think.]

“Great”, he replied. “We need your plan in 5 business days.”

RCA's Peter Edge, Tom Corson on the Shuttering of Jive, J and Arista

Despite telling Billboard.biz in August that the Jive, J and Arista labels "are not going to go away," new RCA Records CEO Peter Edge and President/COO Tom Corson confirmed longstanding rumors that the imprints will be shuttered, with their artists moving to RCA.

"The path we've taken is to refresh RCA, so we're going to retire those brands," Corson told The Hollywood Reporter in a new interview. "There may be a reason down the line to bring them back, but it's a clean slate here."

Jive Records, run by Barry Weiss for nearly 20 years, was home to multi-platinum pop stars Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Arista was founded in 1974 also by Davis, who signed Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Barry Manilow to the label. In recent years, it saw releases by Usher and Pink. All artists will now fall under the RCA Records banner.

Adam is now on the ballot of MTV's O Music Awards in the Must Follow Artist on Twitter category. The competition is stiff – Justin Bieber, Cher, Snoop Dogg, Lady Gaga, Mark Hoppus and Blake Shelton. But looks like he could give Biebs and Gaga a run for the money in this one.
